What this park lacks in size it makes up for with pride! This neighborhood park is, I would guess, only about 30 to 40 acres, but what it has in those boundaries is PRIDE and a lot of it!
We parked on the south side of the park and what is the first thing we see? A community youth garden right in the middle of a neighborhood park. I knew I had found something different when I walked into this park.
This park had everything, Tennis Courts, Basketball, Wading Pool, Soccer Fields, Baseball Field, Wall Ball, Horseshoe Pit, Playground Equipment, Picnic Areas, Walking Trails, Football Field, and even a stage for outdoor concerts! (Which unlike most park concerts, these go through the end of September.)
The walking / running trail is a ½ mile loop and as an ex-runner I have to say I loved the trail! Unlike most parks now, they didn't pave the path. If you have ever run on non-paved path and then a paved path, I can tell you your knees appreciate the non-paved paths.
If you have pets, then this park is for you. They have a great off leash area for you to play with your dogs. There were no dogs there when I was there, so sorry no pictures, but I'm sure the dogs that do come to the park love to run without the leash.
As you can see, despite it being a rather medium size park, they really have everything even the best large parks have. I have to say Lents Park is one of the best neighborhood parks I've seen in a long time. I think that is more a reflection of the community as I didn't see any graffiti! (Great jobs Lents Neighborhood, you should be proud!)
