Hurricane Season is indeed upon us! And if you have not gotten ready, you need to! Remember, if you do not have Homeowners Insurance, insurance companies will NOT write a policy as long as there is a named storm out there! So if you STILL don't have it, be sure to make that phone call as soon as there are no named storms!!!! (You should have taken care of this when you purchased your home and NOT let it lapse!)
If you are staying home during a storm, remember that you may loose electricity! Have plenty of battery powered flashlights and backup batteries on hand! Also a battery powered radio to keep you informed of what is going on should the power and thusly the tv go out! You might also consider investing in a weather radio! A good idea if you live in Florida!
Remember to have your medications refilled BEFORE the storm gets there! If it does any damage to your area, you may not be able to get refills in the days following the storm!
Bring in all lawn furniture (or throw it all in the pool if you have one) - you don't want flying objects to take out your windows! Hanging plants need to come down and find a wind safe location (like your bath tub) until the storm is past!
Have your gas tank filled before the storm gets there! You never know if a last minute turn in the storm's direction will lead to your area being without gas to fill that tank once the storm is past!!!! If you have a garage, put your car inside!
Have buckets of water filled to flush the toilet if needed and always have plenty of bottled water and canned goods on hand!!! You can go without warm food! Remember a manual can opener!!!
Have plenty of pet food too! They need to be remembered as part of your preparations for the storm!
Use common sense! Stay OFF the streets and AWAY from the beaches during a hurricane!
