Unjudged and Unbridled, Project Blogger - Week Two

By
Real Estate Technology with Real Estate Tomato

Here we are again, unjudged and unbridled, knowing that we are not officially being judged yet by the audience, nor the judges until April 9th.

Yet, as I explained last week, we feel that it is important to begin documenting Jackie Colson-Miller's progress.  Given that we are literally developing her skills from the ground up, this creates the opportunity for others to see our process and progress.

Below is a breakdown of some of this past week’s efforts in getting Jackie's Real Estate Sizzle prepared during this Pre-Season, as well as some of her second week's stats.

Week Two - Training with the Tomato:

1. Design tweaks
We felt we did a pretty good job at getting the site up an running for last Monday, so there were very few changes that needed to be made.  We ‘tightened up’ the CSS in the main body as well as in the right sidebar to make the site a bit more cleanly read.  Then we worked on the left sidebar, by helping her add a Reading List.

2. Sidebar Reading List
Jackie is a voracious reader of inspirational, business and travel-minded books.  In an effort to share some of her recommendations as well as add some color to the left sidebar, she felt dynamic reading list with the book’s covers would be perfect.

Training: (1 hour 15 mins)
1. Locating and saving images for each book.
2. Cropping and resizing images to be uniform.
3. Creating header in the left sidebar template in HTML (<h2> for example)
4. Uploading images to the server (FTP access with Filezilla)
5. Posting images using ‘anchor’ tags (<a img src=”” for example)
6. Referencing images to link to their details page on Amazon (<a href=”” for example)
7. Centering and spacing of images using HTML as well.

3.  First 2 Video Uploads
The previous week Jackie and I trained on how to upload video to her site after posting it on Google Video.  This week she used her new skills to upload her first and second videos.

A large part of Jackie’s blogging is going to be revolved around her international real estate correspondence starting next week.  These first 2 videos have been a good test, to work out the kinks, given that she’ll be on her own in the coming weeks.

4. Her homework.  Besides blogging... As always, it's confidential, but I will say that she has an enormous resource organized to hone her blogging techniques.  We also covered the value of participation in the community.  More on this as the results come in :)
