"Baseball was made for kids, and grown-ups only screw it up."

I believe this it totally true because kids believe in the purest form of the game.  Its not just baseball but any sport.  I've spent the last four summers working for the Cape Cod Baseball League and the reason I keep going back is because of the kids.  These young boys love these young men that play that they love to believe one day they will be in the "Big Leagues".  They run to them after a game and ask them for thier autographs even if they don't make it to the "Big Time".  They ask him just for the fact they love the game of baseball.

When did athletes become so jaded?  The athletes like Alex Rodriguez and Kobe Bryant who are only looking for money.  You look at kids that love any game, you just hope they don't look for the money but just for the love of it.

Great Post!   I think there are many purist out there that would completely agree that money has ruined sports.  That why the NCAA is great!

Well, I say, "Invest in your kids!" Get them involved in sports so that they can grow up, make a few hundred milllion dollars, and buy you a new home and support you in your old age! LOL

Athletes became jaded when green came in the picture. They see so much of it that they can't see straight anymore. Players like alex rodriguez as good as he is, act as bad role models and teach kids it's just about the money. This is why players change teams so often and the exact reason why we tune out most sports these days. Who didn't love the days when the lakers were a team and evryone knew who was on their team. Now it changes every year as like in all sports. You never find a favorite anymore. This is part of the fee structure problem in baseball. The yankees make millions more than the next team and such pay millions more for their players. Yet, treat their own like crap, trading them after a couple years putting enormous strain on the players to perform at their best. Wasn't sports supposed to be fun?  I think sports owners are sending a terrible message to their youngest fans. Sports were much more enjoyable to watch and keep track of when players stayed with their teams for their entire career. Now if the yankees win, your first thought is, who was on their team.
