As a resident, a mother and real estate agent in Millburn Short Hills, I am continually amazed by the accomplishments of our Blue Ribbon Award winning high school. I know that I will be sending my children to the best possible place to get an education. School administrators recently reported results of an in-house study that was conducted to find out how Millburn/Short Hills students fared when applying to colleges and universities. This in-house study analyzed academic grade-point averages (GPA) and standardized test scores in relation to which colleges and universities students were accepted by or rejected from.
The superintendant of schools, Richard Brodow, was proud to say that 99% of the graduating class of 2008 continued on to college. 97% of the senior class will be attending four-year schools. This class has created a new record for the district. Brodow added that the additional two percent are enrolling in two-year degree programs. The State Department of Education School Report Cards for the 2006-07 academic year report that 94% of Millburn’s 2007 graduating class planned on attending four-year colleges. The figures last year for students in comparable nearby school districts were as follows: Mountain Lakes at 93%; Chatham and Livingston, 80%; Summit, Westfield and Ridge high schools, 80%.
All of these figures are extremely impressive and respectable, but Millburn’s numbers are by far the highest in the area. New homeowners who have children, or plan to start a family, will be comforted by the fact that their children are going to attend a quality school system that encourages its students to be the best that they can be.
