Facebook for your business is on the move

Social Networking has played a major role in Business Networking in 2008.  Network Giants Myspace, Facebook and LinkedIN have all been contending for the #1 Spot.

June 2008 Comscore reported that Facebook has officially dethroned Myspace with 132 million unique visitors compared to Myspace 117 million.  Facebook had tripled its visitor count from last year with only 52 million visitors.

Facebook has been on the prowl for the #1 spot for the longest time slowly gaining momentum over the years and attacking the competition at their strong points.

Previously I didn't focus too much in Facebook because at the time Myspace was my one stop shop for Social Networking as my personal site and I didn't feel the presence of business building on there.  I left the task of my Business Network to LinkedIN.

Facebook has been slowly laying the ground work for business contacts and business networking.  Just recently Facebook quietly copied LinkedIN's popular feature of "People you may know" which played a strong role in building business relationships.

This past year we seen Facebook go under through some major surgery and improvements.  This has been all foundation for the future ahead in tweaking to become more business savvy in dominating LinkedIN and Myspace combined.

Is Facebook going to dominate LinkedIN in the long run? probably not but will give LinkedIN a run for its money and already has shown domination over Myspace.

If you haven't done so already start exploring the new changes Facebook has already incorporated and keep an eye out for the Business Focus changes in the upcoming events.  I have already started putting a bit more effort on my page and will start slowly checking in more.

I don't know if I'm ready for facebook or myspace. I will have to watch and see how my peers do with their pages...

Justin, I am a firm believer that you need to be on both, if nothing else let the buyers and sellers and yuor circle of influence decide where they want to be. Guess what you are on both they will find you.

I think currently facebook is more social then business vs Linked-In is more bussiness then social.

I have yet to get started on Face book or any of the common social platforms. I spend way to much time on my PC now.

I've set up a facebook AND a myspace account. Whether you spend any time on there or not, take the time to set them up. Even if you never log in again, you'll get any emails from folks trying to contact you.

Justin,  I could hug you! I've been debating back and forth the power of social networking with my spouse who thinks I'm wasting my time in cyber space. I just started a facebook page this morning (A TRUE WORK IN PROGRESS AND NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME)and then I found your blog! I feel vindicated and I look forward to finding you on facebook.

PS: I began my Real Estate Career in VA Beach in 1994 so who knows I may actually have a referral for you down the road from a previous client.

@ Endre - Well you can't beat free exposure and can't get enough exposure so I agree on having both aswell.  The point of the post is showcasing how facebook is moving more forward in Business Focus.

@ Rita - Exactly, what better way to start than now!

@ Keith - Again there maybe mixed responses but its free exposure and free touch in the hightech world, just have to be smart about it.

@ Christine - You know our children and young ones are actually the best teachers for Social Networking :)

@ Laura - we are in the digital age so its not that bad to be stuck on the pc often :D

@ Norma - the trick is time management!
