As a realtor in the township of Millburn/Short Hills I have noticed a few factors that hopeful new homeowners are in the market for. For parents it might be a Blue Ribbon Award winning high school. Nature enthusiasts might prioritize a place with a great deal of greenery and a thirst for preserving the environment. Still others will gauge the township by the size, beauty and quality of the homes they are shown. While people may have different priorities and ideas of what truly makes a township the right one for them, one facet that just about all new homeowners look for is a community that cares. This kind of community is characterized by big decisions made by the township and also by individual residents. In the township of Millburn/Short Hills, resident Diane Nelson, along with her family, have shown new homeowners that Millburn/Short Hills is undoubtedly a community with a heart.
Nelson and her family welcomed seven-year-old Jaquel Marble into their home for two weeks over the summer. Through the Fresh Air Fund, a not-for-profit organization, Jaquel enjoyed the township of Millburn/Short Hills. The Fresh Air fund provides over 1.7 million inner city children with the opportunity for a free summer vacation in towns like Short Hills, which have ample fresh air, space, and trees. The children who participate in the Fresh Air Fund are between ages 6 and 18 years old and can stay with the same family year after year should the family so desire. Nelson is a stay at home mother who was searching for a volunteer activity that she could enjoy with her children. After learning about the Fresh Air Fund from the local paper, Nelson and her family agreed to host Jaquel.
It is not every township that houses residents who care deeply enough to open their homes to a stranger. Millburn/Short Hills is a unique and special place, where new homeowners can be proud to live.
