HELP! Why do I need to change?? What's the big deal about the internet anyway???

As Career Development Director for my company, I train the agents not only on the basics but also on how to keep ahead of the competition and grow their business.  Well, today's training meeting that consisted of agents that have had a solid 20 years in the business with good success, was focused on capturing the leads of the Gen Y and Gen X groups.  This, of course, included having an Internet presence.

Now before I go much further, I should probably confess- I have checking my cell phone voice mail and but LOVE to text and have all my new agents texting me.  I love my Blackberry.  I have never blogged before.  I was under the impression that blogging was more like nasty gossip than networking and learning.  I have finally started adjusting to Vista...I am a Gen X and Y want to be.

Back to the meeting: They were miserable! (to say the least!)  "That's too confusing and takes way too much time to learn!" whined one.  Another insisted that her business is what it is because of her personal attention to her clients.  (I had no real arguments to either because...they are at least partially true.)  This concern, (I would rather say "attitude" but will refrain..almost) became the focus and a real downer of the meeting.

As a novice to Blogging and frankly, to Active Rain, I thought it only appropriate to bring their concerns to this forum.  So, fellow REALTORS-

Are any of you in smaller to mid-sized markets and new to the Internet craze?  Was it worth learning...or do you have a teenager in the house doing if for you?  Is it worth the aggravation to get a website or join networking sites like activerain and linkedin?  Will it REALLY grow my business or just turn me into an Internet junky??  When I hear the word BLOG I get the creeps because all I hear are nasty things...why would I be apart of that??

HELP!

Thanks!
