Last April, I made a tough decision to leave one of the leading internationally known real estate companies to join a company that I knew nothing about. My decision was made due to lack of business and lack of company growth. Now I know each company is independently owned and operated, so this may not be true for the international company as a whole, but the office that I worked out of was not moving forward. There were just a few dedicated agents that were carrying the office, but the leaders seemingly did not have vision nor were they interested in moving the company forward. With that said, I had to make a move. I selected the company I am now with based on vision and the strong leadership of the broker. He has proven to be a self starter and has taken his business to greater heights.
Going from being a growing successful agent over that last 5 years to not having any sales over a 3 month period, I panicked and knew I needed to join a team that was motivated and a company that was making money. Also, with the surge in foreclosures and short-sales, I needed to learn more and understand this new market.
Early one Monday morning, I was out walking when my neighbor caught up with me on her way to work. She and I began discussing my dissatisfaction with my current company and how I was interviewing with other companies. She told me about how busy she was and how the company she worked for was doing so much business and how great her broker was. She urged me to speak with him. Needless to say, I decided to call. After meeting with the broker, he shared the company's goals, vision, and benefits in joining the company. I realized it was worth taking the chance. What's the worst that could happen?...I'd gain more knowledge?...Become a better agent?... Make more money?... So, I took a chance on joining a successful team who seemed to be all of the above.
Now, five months later, I have more than 6 closed transactions under my belt with 6 scheduled closings this month and currently working with 3 buyers, 2 short-sales under contract, and 1 active listing. I'd say, this up and coming company that was once unknown to me was worth the risk. It is a growing national real estate company with great benefits. However, the greatest benefit of all is having a strong successful broker with vision.
