Gas Crisis????

Yesterday my husband called and asked me how much gas I had in the car. I informed him only about 1/8 of a tank, if that. He said, "you better leave right now and go fill up." When I inquired as to the reason why, he said that stations everywhere were running out of gas and cars were lined up for city blocks waiting to fill-up.

So, out I go to find gas. And sure enough everywhere I went there were lines. I went to my usual fill up place, waited in line for 20 minutes only to be allowed to put $15.00 in my tank. Grabbed another card, surely something must be wrong with the card, $15.00 again. When I inquired about the amount, the attendant said they had put a cap on gas everywhere. You were only allowed to put in $15.00 per car. Well that would get across town...maybe. So off I rode to another station, which apparently had not heard about the cap and I was allowed to finish filling up.

The highest I saw per gallon was 4.89 for the cheap stuff.  It must of risen 3-4 times yesterday in a matter of hours. Stations all over town have their pumps closed due to the fact they are out of gas. You would think that there would be some sort of plan in place. I understand a cap on the gas, but 15.00? That will get you about 3 gallons of gas, about enough to get you home on. Not to mention a cap on how high the gas can go. I just thought it a bit ridiculous. The price gouging was just incredible. I just don't think they should be allowed to raise the price of gas that is already in the ground.

Someone had told that they though there was a long standing law in Georgia that they couldn't raise the price of the gas that they already had, that it could only be done when the trucks came to fill them up. We were just starting to get a bit of a reprieve, then Ike happens.

Hi Jan

Could there be price fixing? Are the oil companies ripping off the consumers? Yesterday as the hurricane was moving though the Gulf of Mexico all the gas station on Route one in Palm Beach and Broward County in Florida all raised the price of gas and I did not see a tanker truck delivering gas.

Good luck and success
