Signs of a "Bad" Real Estate Agent

Real Estate Agent with Vylla Home

Bill's Cartoons

Read what US News has compiled after talking with many individuals involved and dealing in the real estate industry as the six signs that indicate a client might be dealing with a crummy real estate agent.

I included have encountered agents while in the process of purchasing my first home (before I became licensed) some individuals who I would describe to have some of the characteristics listed below. I once had this agent who made an appointment to meet us a Saturday but never show up and then had the face to tell us he had waited for us for two hours.

One of my first clients were my parents I asked them to be honest with me about everything if they were unhappy or if they felt neglected trough out the transaction, that input from my parents was something that helped me out in the future, from then on I have always treated my client as family, someone who I dearly want to help and to advice in the complicated process of buying or selling a home.

Interesting article.  I guess (like in any line of work), there are both good and bad..

I would suspect the top 2 red tags of a "bad" agent would be (1) Doesn't return calls, or communicate in a timely manner, and (2) Pretends to have a crystal ball about what the market will do in the future!

As for use of affiliates, that can be dicey.  I try not to steer to good lenders or title people, but it becomes a catch 22.

Often buyers will get into trouble if they go it alone, and choose a lender that has advertised the lowest loan rates, via the local newspaper or media.  I've had many shaky transactions because of this.  More often than not, the "lower rate" lender never closes at that rate - if they close at all.  It leaves me scrambling to find one of my lenders who will take the loan package, tidy it up, and actually fund.

The first sign of a crummy agent might be, when they ask you to right the offer up on your listing for their buyer.  Ih vae had this happen more than once.

That was an interesting article. To follow the lead of Lori, there are good and bad in every field and profession. I've met lawyers that would be better off being used car salesmen and used car salesmen that would be better lawyers. Communication, Integrity, Honesty are key.

You are right some of these traits show-up in every market; I call them the difference between being licensed and a REALTOR.

It is funny how the basics are really what hang up most agents. Answer the phone, do what you say you will do, follow up and follow through. All so simple, but still apparently the rarest skills in the business!

I really hate agents that only show listings within their company.  That is really not in your client's best interest.

I'm currently dealing with the most incompetent agent I've ever met. I plan to blog about it soon. I just have to get past the rage first.  >:o(

One of the top producer once showed his phone to me,

he has 'DO NOT answer list'

that list is for RE agents~ ta da!

He said, no matter what he does not have any desire to work ever again with that agent.

Think of those clients who those agents represent.....
