REALTOR Saftey

I saw a post this morning about REALTOR safety and after reading I was a little concerned, too many agents have forgotten about how dangerous your job actually is.  Please, please be careful and always be on your toes.

Always call someone and let them know when you are going to show a house especially to a single person whether it's a guy or a girl.

Don't be afraid to call the local police dept. and see if they can get a squad car in the neighborhood.

Always take someone for an evening appt.

My earlier post talks about using your affiliates not "using"your affiliates this is a time where that rule goes out the window, call your local affiliate and ask if they will be in the neighborhood and have them park somewhere close to the house in case you need them.   I have done it for several of my agents.

Note for the affiliates:  Dropping by an open house on Sundays is good not only to give your agent a refreshment and snack but to make sure they are ok.  Treat them like family after all if it isn't for YOUR agent you don't have a job.  Keep that in mind.

Fold be careful out there think outside the box and remember if you don't have good feeling about someone chances are you are right.

Make it a great day!!

Hey Chaz,

Yes, we do tend to forget how dangerous it can really be.  I know I have made a few "bad" calls in meeting people.  I was uncomfortable but luckily nothing happened.

I have since learned to trust my "gut' feelings about people.  I do not want to become a statistic.

If you ever need help with anything let me know.   I don't know if the St Louis board sells any items that may help you but St. Charles sells mace and several other safety items that may help you down the road.

Make it a great day Ann!!

Charlie,

Good points all.  I had never thought about "using" an affiliate in certain cases.

Charlie, I have the same concerns about sending any of my employees to someone's home to do a signing, so usually we don't offer to do that. If there's no alternative, I go myself.

Thanks for the comments John, I have done several signings at houses, and like you I don't send any of the employees out to do one.

There currently is a murder trial underway here about a Realtor who was murdered by his Client back in February 2007. Everyone knows he's guilty; they are just arguing over whether it was involuntary manslaughter or premeditated murder, a difference of 20 years to life in prison.

I've been doing evening loan signings for over 5 years now and have never had a problem.  I have been very fortunate and live in one of the safest communities in the United States, but you never know right?  I'm also a Realtor and do open houses.  If I'm uncomfortable in any way, I would not put my life in jeopardy.  Your post caught my attention.  It's a reminder to stay on my toes as you put it.  Thanks!

Don't forget to have your local police emergency number in your phone as 911 still doesn't work correctly on celll phones.
