Lunch at Stella's, A Southern Bistro in Simpsonville, SC

By

Last Friday, I had lunch with a Realtor Friend at a reasonably new Bistro on Fairview Road in Simpsonville.   I was in for an unexpected treat.  I'm not normally a huge fan of grits but after seeing this dish on a nearby table, I decided to give the Shrimp & Grits with tomatoes a try.  The presentation was really good on every dish I saw them deliver to the adjoining tables.

The dish arrived at our table (with some wonderful bread and butter) and proved to taste as good as it looked.  There was a sauce around the grits/shrimp & tomatoes that made you know why the entire dish was so good.  It was a great meal and I was definitely a cleaned plate-er on this meal.  We decided right then to treat some of our clients to this Bistro in the future

When it was time for dessert, the waiter suggested a Banana Crème Brulee which lived up to his description of a dessert that was flying out the door.  It tasted like an upscale banana pudding without the cookie/wafers but instead, a browned sugar sprinkled on top.

The owner said they were a Regional Southern Bistro and Kim and I agreed this tasted like a dish you might be served in a fine restaurant in Charleston, SC.   But, they are right here in Simpsonville, SC and I urge you to go by for lunch or dinner if you live anywhere nearby.   Should you ever visit, it would be a treat to eat here also.

Photos do not do the food justice . . . next time, I will have my camera ready to take photos.

Yummy!!! My gosh but that looks good.  I've never had grits and thought I could die easily without trying them, but that picture makes them look scrumptious!  Can you tell I'm starving!

Maybe we shouldn't tell everyone ....before you know it we'll need to make reservations for lunch.

Yesterday, I entertained a buyer and her two sisters, one of which is EXTREMELY picky about food.  While I went back to the office to look up properties for the afternoon tour of homes, the three sisters went in to have lunch.  All I knew about Stella's is that all reviews from the locals were terrific.

Let's just say, they were pleasantly surprised and LOVED their meal.  It was so enjoyable, they said, that they had to have a glass of wine with lunch because the atmosphere was so relaxing.

Kudo's Stella for giving my client from Charleston a fabulous lunch....I suspect they will buy here, move here, and be back to visit.

The reason for the lowcountry flair is that the chef (Jason Scholz) was the chef who opened both High Cotton's for the Maverick Southern Kitchen group...and you will be HARD PRESSED to find a finer cook than this man...he is unrelenting in his quest for diner satisfaction, more than capable of taking something simple and making it special with his unfaltering palate, and lastly, never, and I mean NEVER skimps on the product he buys...if you start with quality, you end up with quality. He and his wife are the best thing to happen to Simpsonville in a while. You get an incredibly talented chef, who has a great business partner in wife Julia, and he is cooking for you at Upstate prices...GREAT BARGAIN PEOPLE!!!! I have worked with the gent for 7 years (selling him meat) and know for a fact, if you are not eating with him, you are missing the boat!

Hi Sheila, I stopped over to say hello as I noticed you had just posted something new and you haven't been on since Sept.  I can't comment to much about the food dish you are so excited about because I can't eat sea food, so I will pass on that dish but the banana brulee sounds yummy.
