As strange as it may seem in today's busy world you have to get out announcements about upcoming community events early! So here it is hot of the presses.
Occoquan River Festival -May 2, 2009
Last night the founding members of the Occoquan River Communities met at Belmont Bay to discuss our plans for next year's festival. The festival is just one part of what the Occoquan River Communities is all about but it is the largest group event encompassing all of the communities in one day. Under the leadership of John Houser from Occoquan Regional Park, the overall event manager last year, we were able to pull together a nice event in a very short period of time.
This year we have challenged ourselves again to try and make it even bigger and better than our inaugural event in a short period of time. The Occoquan River Communities are comprised of Belmont Bay, Town of Occoquan, Lorton Arts Foundation, Occoquan Regional Park and the Riverfront Marinas spanning both sides of the Occoquan River. The nonprofit-group is a grass roots effort to help promote the conservation of the river and the promotion of the area.
So far the efforts of the few key members of the organization have been working, with the Washington Business Journal article naming the Town of Occoquan as one the hot spots to watch and Belmont Bay will be featured in an upcoming "where we live' segment in the Washington Post.
So set aside the date on your calendar to join the communities on the river May 2, 2009. We promise you it will be a great time for everyone!
