Have you ever had one of life's little "ah ha" moments? You know where some little insignificant thing happens and it brings something seemingly unrelated into clearer focus?
Well this past Sunday I did.
I was taking my kids upstairs to check into their Sunday school rooms and we decided to take the elevator. Now for those of you with kids, you know what a big deal it is for the them to push the button - on anything! My son, Ben, happened to have the honor of being the official button pusher of the day and he couldn't wait for us to get inside so he could go do his thing.
Of course, being a boy, he couldn't push the button in a normal way. Nooooo - he had to try and whack the dang thing with his head. Obviously, it didn't work. I began to laugh as I watched him keep trying to push the button with his head - to no avail - when it dawned on me that we Realtors, myself included, are often guilty of the same thing!
How many times do we keep trying the same old approach even though we don't get the desired results? I once heard someone say, "The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing, but to expect different results.". I don't know if it makes us crazy or not, but it can sure make us unsuccessful in the attainment of our goals.
So my challenge to my self, my fellow Realtors, and even you Brokers out there is to really evaluate our systems and our business plan for 2009. If we aren't happy with our current results, then let's change what we're doing. Even small changes can make big differences. Who knows? Just maybe we can get that elevator to the second floor!
