Charlotte County is a beautiful area. I've grown to include it into my 'home'. At first glance from my neighboring Sarasota County, I thought it was older and it seemed too different me. My biggest complaint was the congestion on 41.
But... after moving closer to this county, and now after working there for over... well a few years, I really enjoy it. It has this... old Florida meets progressive acceptance meets... run of the mill - down to Earth feel to it.
There really isn't a whole lot of actual beach area, but it's on the coast and there's GREAT boating and some of the best fishing in the world. There's Boca Grande, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda...
And the shopping. Other areas seem to focus too much on shopping and service industries. Charlotte is more of a self-reliant area. We're in Florida and love our tourism industry, but here people actually work for their neighbors, not just the visitors. It's nice. There's great shops, but they really do thrive more year-round.
The Chamber of Commerce really seems to seal the deal with a great marketing presence. I love what they've done to promote the area. And... the area is growing & so nicely!
The people are friendly, the business is good, the food is excellent, and 41 really isn't that congested. It's easier driving in Charlotte than Sarasota.
Maybe it's a nice change of scenery but I really love it. And it calls out to you... Get on your boat!
Next time you're in Florida... stop on by.
