Here We Go Again....

This past weekend my husband decided we needed a place to put "the stereo."  You see we moved into a patio home last year and are still arranging things.  The Stereo is one of the items that remains in a box, it doesn't have a home in our home.

The husband located a  nice little spot to locate The Stereo, but we need a small cabinet to hide it in.  While we were furniture shopping, I suggested we consider doing an iPod thing.  Not being totally familiar with the iPod, (I've purchased several - none for myself of course ), I'm just assuming you can hook up an iPod with a stereo. Not our Stereo, but one made for that purpose yes?

The ensuing conversation with my husband, the dinosaur, went something along the lines of, no an iPod is not strong enough to power speakers, besides next year there will be another new and different device....and so on.

Well he's probably right.  My first car had an "8-track".  That was at a time when all my guy friends were coming back from  Sunny Vietnam with massive "reel to reel" recorders.  The "8-track" required one carry a ton of music to play in it.  On a tourist run to NYC, some fool broke into my car, removed my beloved "8-track" and took my library of music.  It was a huge loss.

The next wave of technology brought us cassettes.  I have hundreds of cassettes with music, real estate training and books on them.  Again, they need additional storage homes in your car and home.  They can be easily misplaced or stolen.

Then came CD's.  Why they named these after a "Certificate of Deposit" is beyond me.  It was always confusing.  Too make matters worse a CD looks like a DVD.  How is one to know the difference?  Some are writable, some are not.  Some if you put in your car player you ruin it.  CD's once you get the hang of it are an improvement over the stupid little cassettes that would break.  But still storage was an issue.

Now we have the iPod.  This amazing little device organizes our music, photo and video life into a smart little package.  If it gets lost or stolen, there is always the safety of the backup.

I just read a piece where 70% of the vehicles in 2007 will offer hookups for music devices.  If they don't, the auto makers will lose their customers under age 44.

Geeze and I got excited a decade ago when I bought a cool car with Cup Holders! Now when I buy a car I will need to consider intregating the iPod system into it, even if I still don't own one, I must consider resale...

In the last year we bought a sound system for the television that included an ipod dock. The sound is terrific, its profile is miniscule.  When in the mood, I can plug it into the MP3 player dock in the car and let the music shuffle on the road.

Little is good.

The more things change, the more we change.

Luckily, I never got into 8-tracks. Just too big. However, I did like Beta (smaller, better picture)...but gave 'em all away to a charity.

Now, my car has both a tape player and a CD player. I have old Mike Ferry tapes...that I could listen to. And, I must have a 1000 musical CD's. But, it's such a pain to store them and then replace them correctly, so I just end up listening to WFMT (classical music) or WBBM (our traffic station).

Wondering how many obsolete items we have in our homes.

Hey, there's material for a blog!

Well thank heavens for this post....  After I saw that massive computer set up you had, I was feeling very low.  All that & she's a web genius!

I'm very happy to report that I've had my IPod hardwired to the factory head of my car for 3 years now.  I also have it hooked up to the stereo on my boat.  It gets even better... I have my Itunes set up as a "virtual jukebox" at my house, playing throughout my whole house audio.  Very fun at parties.

Finally, something I know!!

How about this... I'll come to Denver and help you with your IPod & Itunes.  In return, you can help me with my blogging and web presence.  Sound good?  :)

Be careful what you ask for... I'm married to an airline pilot and can be on the next flight to Denver. If you want any help, just call!  I mean it.

Itunes is great and my IPod has become a valued toy!

You and your hubby and/or Maureen and Company are welcome here anytime.  I even have a guest room.

I must forewarn you though, my son Zack looks exactly like Josh Plummer.  It could be nerve racking for you.  OF course Zack doesn't live with me, I let his wife babysit him now....  :)

Ooops, we've drifted off topic...again.

Just like Mae West said, "I used to be Snow White, but I drifted!"

LOL... We (Maureen & I) met Josh today for an ice cream.  What a nice guy.  We spent 2 hours talking about the market and AR.  I told them that I would love to meet many of the AR family.  Of course, your name came up.  See, who's drifting now?

You're always welcome in Michigan as well.  We have a few guest rooms.  Three to be exact.  My mom keeps suggesting I fill them with babies!  :)  Drifting again....

It's in the near future.  LOL... a conversation to be had over a drink!  :)  Hopefully someday we'll get to do that!

You really are the best.
