Traffic By Writing

I have found that writing articles has been one of the best forms of business development for my business. Think about it, if you were a client looking to purchase a home or obtain financing, would you want to use the company that has flashy ads all the time or would you want to work with the company that writes articles every week in the newspaper and magazines? By writing articles for local magazines and papers, you have the opportunity to create an audience and capture them with new information. I would much rather help educate the general public through a mass media than do it over the phone...1 by 1...

I see many of my peers in Active Rain that do a great job of writing. In these slowing times, I urge you to spend less on the flashy, expensive ads to cut down on unnecessary overhead and spend more time on creating a loyal readership that will follow you for years to come...Just as in the AR community, a level of trust and sense of understanding with the way a person conducts themselves goes far beyond a generic ad that is impersonal and generic!

Excellent post Scott!  Other than Active Rain, the Kaaang of All Things Real Estate, are there any other publications that you can submit articles too, and have them posted???  Just curious, learning curve is steep on this one!!

Hey Christopher,

I would talk to your local newspaper to see if you can write a weelkly real estate spot in the paper. I write articles for Homes and Land, the local newspaper and a home and garden magazine...Use your local resources and be proactive...

Hi Scott - I had read this post and remembered it. I agree so much with what you've said. In fact I've found several people that I would or would not consider doing business with based off of what they've written in their blog. I think it certainly is a good way to learn about someone and/or introduce yourself.

I just wrote a post about the benefits of blogging. I think what you've written here provides a great perspective on that and I included a link to your article. You can see it here. Just thought you may like to know that what you wrote was referenced in another post.
