Before Winter hits, if you are looking for a nice weekend drive and a place to have lunch, I'd like to invite you to have an old fashioned hamburger, fries, and a real milkshake made with Crystal ice cream. All of this while sitting outside enjoying a gorgeous view of the Sacramento River. Where you ask? Why it's the Dinky Diner in Clarksburg. The friendly folks at the Dinky Diner will cook your burger to order and give you more than enough fries to satisfy even the hardiest of appetites.

Driving directions: go North on the River Road (on the Yolo County side of the river) from Freeport Bridge until you get to Clarksburg. Once you pass the electronic "SLOW NOW" sign, you're almost there. The Dinky Diner is parked on the River side.

Or take Jefferson Boulevard South out of West Sacramento about 15 miles until you get to Clarksburg Road. Go right on Clarksburg Road until you get to the River Road and take a right. The Dinky diner will be on your left/on the river side. You can't miss it.

If you have children, you may want to pop in to Silverbend (north of the Dinky Diner on River Road) to select a pumpkin and take a train ride. They are open during Halloween Season, but call first.

It's a beautiful time of year in Clarksburg. Caution, drive slowly on the River Road due to lots of cyclists and the occassional tractor. Drive safe and enjoy your lunch!

Looks good to me. I always liked the roadside foods and stuff. Great river view!

One of my favourites in Upstate New York was the chow-chow truck. They would drive into our compound and make the best chinese food ever!

What fun!  Clarksburg and the Sacramento River was one of those places my family spent time when I was a kid.  I remember being about 4 years old, when my mother, and an older brother and I were in a little 14 foot boat, which my brother had tied to one of the pilings under the bridge, while we fished.  Along came a yacht, which created an enormous wake, and nearly swamped our little boat.  My brother was quickly untying the boat, while my mother was frantically bailing water.  My mother decided to learn how to swim, shortly after that!

Myrl, What a good story that experience turned out to be. Thanks for reading and commenting. I will be blogging about Shorty's Mexican Restaurant soon, so please check back.

Cari - I live in the North East part of Sacramento County now, but you remind me I really need to take my grandkids on a trip over to that part of the river.

Myrl-- Yes, your grandkids would love it. Maybe Silverbend for a train ride and a pumpkin. See you in Yolo County soon! Cari
