I had to relate my encounter with dampness in the basement. I think its funny because I usually don't do house showings with the sellers, much less I have tried to steer clear of short sale properties. My client was determined to see some short sales because they are really looking for a diamond in the rough. Short sale and foreclosures are definitely potential diamonds.
We got to the home and the seller was very reluctant to show the house. I had cleared this showing with the agent at least a day ago so there was plenty of notice. The seller showed the house as best they could until we got to the basement. When I asked to see it, they looked like they bristled. My client and I approached the basement to get hit with a strong odor of dampness. When we looked at the cement floor, all we could see is dampness. I asked the seller, have you had water or do you see water? No was their response. I asked do you know that your basement is damp and smells moldy? No, was their response.
Just another day in the fancy world of real estate!
