Watch what you keep outside your home

By
Home Inspector with Inspector Mike #2116

How many of you use Microsoft's website to find an address?

I have it on my computer so it is rare that I use Mapquest or Google.

I just tried the MicroSoft website and it scares me.

Why? You (EVERYONE) can see to much detail of your home.

Here is the website: http://maps.live.com/#

Type in your address and after it comes up click on the Bird's eye button.

Wonder if the criminals use this????

OR

This could be a great tool to put on your listings so your clients could view the neighborhood first.

It isn't an up to the minute shot though. The one for my house is over a year old, I wouldn't worry about it that much if I where you and I sure hope you are not using this to do appraisels on homes.

Every time I pull up that site it amazes me that they have a camera or satellite on my home, I send the kids out to play and there they are on the site.  I like looking over the fence at my neighbors wife out by the pool.

Gotta love technology!

Take care!

Makes you feel a little like big brother is watching.  Google maps is a little different (http://maps.google.com/) they have the 3D version too.  It is scary.

I love to check out potential hunting areas with both MSN and Google.  I know Google is a little behind.  It still shows my house (which is 2 years old) as a vacant lot!

Hi Mike, I like using either Google or Msn to check out properties before I go and inpect them. I find it helps me out a lot some times.

Mike, ok so I went to the website and typed in an address on my street. The aerial view showed the whole neighborhood. It wasn't possible to get a more detailed view. And, the image is about2 or 3 years old for my area. I guess it depends on where you live and how often the information is updated.

I pulled my address too and like Andrew said the image is at least 3 years old. Google map give you  the same view only more updated.
