What do you think about the new law going into effect that stops people from talking on their cell phones while Driving?

Since alot of us depend on our phones for work I think we will be forced to use those ear pieces now so that we won't miss our clients calls.  I am for this law because it is dangerous to drive while talking.  I have noticed some people don't pay attention while their driving and on their phones.

Without a doubt, Michelle, and regardless of whether it's a law or not -- we should all already have and be using the ear pieces/hands-free set while talking on the cell phone and driving.  There are enough risks while driving... why add to that?

It has been a law here in NY for more than a year now.  I thought it was a national law by now.  They should also ban eating while driving.  Person spills food all over their lap and takes their eyes off the road.

Bring it on.

You do not pay full attention to the road and traffic around you while you're talking on your cell phone.

I also wish restaurants would ban them as well.

On the other hand there are some loony drivers out there that don't pay attention with or without a cell phone.

Youa re so-righton. My husband and I both came from the cellular industry and many many times we have regretted having enabled people to be so rude and unsafe. The only consolation that I have has to do with the true safety issues that have improved. After a hurricaine-those phones have saved lives! After Andrew in South Florida for sure! Perhaps even after Katrina although I don't know how well that system stood up. I know they werre looking for help afterwards so I suspect they hadn't built it to the standards that we did in South Florida.  If you are going to be a utility company you have to consider the value that your service has to the public and make sure that they can depend on you.  We both are not so likely to put a phone to our heads while driving these days because of the safety issues and I certainly would support a law in my state. All the close calls in driving that I have had lately (heh we do drive a lot!) but, in every one of them the other person has been on a cell phone. All of them. Makes you want to just take them away for good! Perhaps that will be a real penalty one day. The driver will be banned from using or buying a cell phone.
