Stairway to....

By
Home Stager with RoomBenders

I could really use some help.  Today I went to a friend's HUGE home.  She and her husband built this as an investment and plan to live there a while and then sell it.  He has insisted that everything be painted in tones of gold--very neutral.  Also he doesn't want to spend any money on furnishings. Some men!!  My friend as done a great job of using what they had and making a very attractive house.  I was able to give her a couple of inexpensive suggestions but I really am not sure what to do in the following space.  I would really appreciate any suggestions of something that could be done  inexpensively.  She was thinking about moving a round table there but it really needs to be in her very large entry which is now bare.  What do you think?

The area is really large but I didn't take a good photo, it was just for me and then I realized that I had all of you to consult.  Obviously the stairs are very high.  Oh, a VERY cool thing.  There is a false wall that opens to under the stairs for a storage room or a secret place.

Vicki:  My southern sister!  I love the round table look!  Will you be attending the SIF roundtable to be held by RESA in CHarleston?

Gosh, wish I could upload a picture; but that is my thought as well; but I would you a very tall vase with very tall flowers to pull your eyes up to the tall ceilings.

My first reaction would be a lounge sofa and a tall lamp for reading or relaxing... like this perhaps?

Now that one is very expensive, but something along that type of design...

I like the round table idea or a really tall "palm" on the long part of the wall with a not to stuffy chair in the corner with a large iron mirror (to match the railing) behind it.  Or a plant in the corner with a mirror and table on the long side. Lot's of possibilities!  Let us know what they do!

OH WOW, I knew that I was asking the right group.  First let me say I really appreciate that so many of you commented and even posted pictures and links.  You are great!

Michelle, now that I have seen the possibility of the bear, I don't think if I can even considered anything else! In fact if I had the bear skin for the top of the stairs I might have to go with that idea but, alas, no bear skin if available!!"

Marci, you are going to have to fill me in about the conference.  It is good to be in contact with another "Carolina Girl.--Best in the World!"

Fernando--I love you positive attitude and the picture.  I know it was a picture from your house UNLESS you finally decided to get a warehouse OR all of your inventory is being used! :-P

Cindy "in Indy" (how cute!)  I would have loved to see your picture and I doubt my client will actually put out fresh flowers but the good news is that she is very good with flower arrranging!

Shannon, I love the sofa but it is way too expensive.  Her husband does not even want to buy one for the living room.  In fact when she told him what I had said, he asked if I was going to buy the needed furniture!!  Get this I went there as a favor because she is a friend.  No Charge!  However I hope to get something for my portfolio.

JoLynn,  The palm is a good idea--especially in South Carolina and I like the idea of an iron mirror.  Thanks for a making the suggestion.  I can't wait to see what finally happens.

Got to be round, Fernando, great table.  The space is nice, but unfinished and just needs proper focus, and I think you'll have that with the round table.  Goog post.

Terrylynn, are you absolutely sure the bear is not the answer? :-)  I agree with you that Fernando did have a great table.  Thanks for your contribution to my problem.

In my experience a large round decorator table, plus skirt, plus round glass is as expensive as a nice piece of wooden furniture.  check around and see if you can find a floor piece that is discounted or a scratch and dent piece.  Home Goods, TJMaxx, etc are all good places too look also.  Oh, and try Craig's list too.... Good luck!

Thanks, Mellissa.  It may work out that I can use a table that she is using in her eating area.  With a skirt, it would work.  Howecer you make a good point about the scratch and dent piece and the less expensive stores.  Columbia doen't have a Home Goods--drat it!

What about two tables...different heights...maybe one wrought iron...with various lush green plants? Just a thought. The space is large...and varied height would add a lot of interest. GBU!

Elizabeth, I would never have thought of 2 tables. Hmmmm.....

Okay Terrylynn, I have pretty much decided against the bear!  I hope to get a round table there at least to show her how it will look.  I suggested some colorful pillows for the family room and the husband was excited over that expenditure so I don't know when she'll get the table.  However I may loan her one....  I'll let you know as soon as I do!!!

Hey Vicki, I apologize if someone said already, I tried to read thru all comments.  What about a Christmas tree?  Love the false wall and secret space.  Do they need a Realtor?  You know I'm right here in town, and.....

Unfortunately (for you) they aren't selling YET.  However they plan to sell in a few years.  Let's hope the market will be much better.  I believe the idea of the Christmas tree is great for that season.  You are right, Charlie, we need to do business together.  Got any listings that need help?????  You know I'm right here in town, and.....

Okay, you are right Terrylynn.  I don't think anything has been done at this point but I'll push her to finish.  Thanks for checking back with me.

I really appreciate your asking.  I gave several suggestions to the homeowner but they decided not to spend anything at that time.  I need to check back and get pictures if they did anything.  I appreciate your asking.  Even though I am a stager, I was just giving some advice to a homeowner.

Great idea about the indoor fountain with the plants.  I really like that and will suggest it.  My client recently bought some furniture from a company that has been having trouble with delievery and quality.  Long story short, she sent the furniture back.  I'll suggest this idea to her.  Thanks, Russel
