Real Estate Photography by Gregory Storm

I got a call this week from someone looking to have an 11,000+ square foot, $29.9 million dollar mansion photographed for a magazine cover and profile feature story.

They found my work at www.lahomephotography.com and www.gregorystorm.com and loved what they saw. We discussed their needs, I submitted my bid and I booked the job the next day.

What I was surprised to find out is they weren't a referral. They had been searching high and low for the right photographers for this job and found me on the Internet.

My ActiveRain and Google Maps (read my article on listing your business on Google Maps here) listing helped get me to the top of their search.

I've shot many multi-million dollar homes before, but this spectacular mega-million dollar mansion is now my biggest.

I had a great time shooting it and judging by their response to the final images, I have a new long-term client. Here are a couple photos from the shoot.

Thanks ActiveRain!

Courtney, Stacey, Fred, Coco, and Williams - Thanks for the nice comments!

Edward - Great suggestion.  Did you have anyone in mind?

Jo-Anne - Photography courses?  I've never thought about that.  Maybe I'll start with some blogging some photography tutorials on ActiveRain.  What do you think?

Loreena - Yup.  Google loves this site.  I just got a Google Alert on this blog post.

Cindy - I hope so too.  The agents said they'll definitely give me referrals.  I've been wanting to jump into the mega-million dollar market and I think this will be a great start.

Bill - Sweet!  I was hoping the title was an attention grabber.  Did you check out the google maps post?

Brenda - Night or twilight shots are a little bit extra but are great for making your listing stand out.

Jo Anne - A subscriber.  Whoo-hoo!  I'm writing an article called 5 Fast Fixes for Your Listing Photo Faux Pas.  It will address light, position, straightening walls, exteriors, etc. and contain before and after photo examples.

Thanks Kathy.

Wow...gorgeous shots..what kind of camera are you using? Lenses?  I just bought a Nikon D80 which I'm playing with for my equestrian photography, but am such a newbie...I need some classes.  I love the camera though - it takes great still photos.  Just curious what the pros are using...

Sonja - I'm shooting with a Canon 40D and using the Canon 10-22mm.  I have tripods, stands, and multiple strobe lights.  But I started simple with a Digital Rebel and worked my gear up as needed.  My advice to you would be to get a great Nikkor wide angle lens.  Don't get the cheaper brands when it comes to a wide angle lens because they might bring more distortion and less sharpness.

Most important: just keep shooting.  You start to get a sense of what you like and what works from just being out there and shooting.  Also have a visual goal.  I want all my shots to be Dwell or Architectural Digest magazine level -- whether I accomplish that is another story -- but that is what I'm aiming for everytime I shoot.  It helps to get you focused on the end result.

Good luck!

Gregory
