Success is not an accident........

By
Title Insurance with Bell Title /Triserv LLC

I should make this a series, since it is one of my favorite and most written about threads. Steve Hoffaker, Jon Wnoroski, Gary Woltal, Steve Homer, Richard Smith, Leander McClain, Rich Dansereau, Jason Crouch, Jim Crawford, Glenn Phillips and many, many, many more Active Rainers have all posted and commented on this area of their businesses. I hold that goal setting and planning are the most important ingredients of running a successful business. Additionally, I believe that research, education and understanding the market(s), how they affect your business, your customers, your local areas and your competition is critical to knowing how to adjust your plans. Action being the last piece to move the plans to success.

Listen people!, complaining about the market and your individual circumstances is not a plan. Successful people do not get that way because of factors beyond their control. They know how to work with those factors to their advantage. They control what they do, not what is done to them. There is no luck, there are no accidents. Success does not "happen" to others, it is a result. It is carefully crafted, planned and executed.

Many years ago, when I was selling insurance for a very large insurance company based in Milwaukee Wisconsin (yeah, The Quiet Company), one of the top agents in our agency in Nashville, used to say, "that luck was nothing more than the time when *Preparation and Opportunity meet".

Good and bad happen, Ce la vie! Opportunity exists in everything. The truly open minded, knowledgeable professional knows when to detect it and then is nimble enough to formulate a plan around it and then act. It is very simple. It is not easy, but (I am sure you have heard this too) anything worth having in life, never is....."

Stay sharp my friends and have a productive and successful day!

To your success

Bo - you are so right about this one. One of the great opportunities of our lifetime is going on right now. The people who can survive in business today will the the industry leaders tomorrow. This market will clear the field, and the strong will just get stronger.

Find a way to survive so that you can flourish later.

Larry, this market certainly has made me stronger. But survival is only a plan when there is nothing else to plan on. Professionals like you and many others that I have had the pleasure of getting to know here on the Rain understand this.....We will be fine! Thanks ...Bo

Bo - you are right again brother.  Most people want to sit on the sidelines and hope that things get better. I once heard someone say "Hope is not a course of action".  You can hope all you want...but it won't change anything.  Develop a plan and work it.  Just because the plan is not paying off today...that doesn't mean it won't tomorrow.  You have to have a dream to go along with your plan.  You have to learn to motivate you when everyone else it trying to bring you down.

Keep up the good work

Have a great day and keep the great posts coming

Leander

ps...thanks for the shout out ;)

Success cannot be treated as a spectator sport. It must be defined and then actively sought to be be achieved.

Hi Richard-

Success comes when people are "on purpose." It's also a process not a destination. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Paradise (and a native Tennesseean - ouch on the UT-FL game this weekend. I went to school at UT)

Greg, and it is not a sprint. The key is to enjoy the journey. The other key is that we are solely responsible for the path(s) we take. Great comment. btw, I am not overly impressed by the outcome of Saturdays game in Knoxville. Although, I have to say, Florida is looking good and they may have been holding back. Thanks..Bo

Amy, I really appreciate that. You are too kind!

Yep, you're right Bo, it surely ain't an accident!!  I think for most folks success is perseverance.  So much so in our profession.  At a time where agents/lenders are dropping like flies, it's a matter of survival of the fittest.  That's success!!

Thanks Bo, for your swift kick in the tail :o)
