Winning The Beauty Contest

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." (2 Corinthian 5:17, NASB)

Do you like the make-over shows? We love to see these huge transformations from "ugly duckling to beauty" accomplished at warp speed .  Girl With Gum

Beautifula book called Psycho-cybernetics written Maxwell Maltz over 30 years ago described what happened to people who had plastic surgery done to improve their appearance. The change on the outside did not manifest itself on the inside. Those with psychological problems before their surgery, had the same problems after.

So, change on the outside may help you win a beauty contest but not necessarily the battles of life.

We love winners. But, some winners in life are losers in eternity.

The way to win is to  win "in Christ." Behold, every day we become His new creation.

"You win because He won."  This doesn't refer to what our worldly minds think of when we think of winning and losing.

UglyThose outside of Christ, may look winners and be beautiful on the outside but inside they are "ugly ducklings" who are in desperate need of a Savior.

To the world this is foolishness. The Christians' most important title is Fool for Christ--bearing witness to those around us who are trying to win the beauty contest, be somebody, get ahead and never feel like winners-- because they are running on empty, trying to get satisfied with what the world has to offer and never succeeding.

When people SEE the Jesus in you--just watch, they'll take note, might even ask you what makes you they way they are.

You may here: "I wish I were more like you." You'll say: "you don't want to be like me at all--I am who I am because Jesus lives in and through me..."

My hunch is that, that will lead to some very grand conversation, Praise God.

My prayer is that I will keep my job title uppermost in my mind throughout the day and I pray that for everyone who calls themselves "Christian"

There are some who say that the world is drawn to beautiful people. That is true. The beautiful people of Hollywood are great to look at from a distance, but what do they really have to offer? When someone thinks about the person who made the biggest impact on their life...they don't usually list beauty queens and Hollywood actors. They list their mothers and grandmothers, pastors, teachers...people who have overcome great obstacles. We may be attracted to the beautiful people, but we are impacted by those who are real. I want to be a light that shines in the darkness. GBU, John!

Hi John I wanted to stop by a repay your visit to my blog and what did I find... such a beautiful post.  I thank you for sharing.

I remember my dad talking about the book Psycho-cybernetics.  We had that book in our home I remember it vividly .Elizabeth made such a beautiful comment  ( I would expect no less from her, she always does) It is so true the inside-- that's the heart...the soul.. that's is where the true beauty is. Our body is the temple for the Holy Spirit......just that alone is overwelming......that beauty within is God's beauty  ..."Ilove.... " I am who I am because Jesus lives in and through me..."    Isn't it amazing.. as the song says  "Our God is an awesom God"

Hi John -- I just had to comment: you are so right about people seeing the change; the presence of Jesus in you.  They wonder; they want some of the action, or they call you a holy roller.  In any case the Lord wins and the Kingdom of God is served!  God bless you!

Hi John, If it is OK with you I have a response to Terry in the above comment.  I have always had a deeo faith in the Lord,

I was raised in a family that instilled that within me but  in my young adult life I had a personal relationship with the Lord,

a rebirth that was real, in addition to the faith I previously had.  I went through the comments about  the holy roller, religious fanatic sort of thing.

It doesn't matter what others say,  It just means that don't understand and so it is easy to discredit or criticize what you can not relate to. I had a friend who described it perfectly.  She said " you know that you know, that you know"  That walk is a real walk and sets your vision beyond the opinions of those who do not understand.

You said beautifully " The Lord wins and the Kingdom of God is served"         I apologize to John, but had to respond to Terry, it so brought back a memory of what I had experienced.  BTW   That experience was just part of the plan....

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I am so glad that we are "new creations", that we can start afresh everyday: that we can be cleansed from our sins, that we are forgiven, that God is merciful--and because of that mercy we can extend it to others, if we are willing.

BeBlessed

John
