It has been about 10 days sense Ike hit Houston Texas and I an amazed when I drive down a neighborhood street, my sister and I live in Oak Forest on different streets, and I have been staying at my sisters because she has electricity now but not all home have power yet in her area.
What has amazed me in this situation that in this area is in is seeing how a people can come together to help neighbors that they may have never met before.
- One person was able to purchase 4 bags of ice, the stores limit per customer at the time, but gives two bags to the people 2 doors down.
- The young couple next door to my sister has a generator and offers to run an extension cord to her house.
- As power is being restored to some folks, I see more electrical cords show up running from one house that has power to one across the street that doesn't, today I counted 13 on a 3 block stretch on my sister's street and it is like that through out the area.
- Before power was restored on my sister's end of the block a family came to cut limbs and clean my her front yard, they never knocked or offered to help they just went to work on the tree and yard and she had never meet them before, she has been calling them her Angles since.
All these people are Angles in their small ways, but it's not so small to the ones they have touched with their acts of kindness. And they may not think they have done much but they are now hero's to someone. For me it strengthens my faith in human nature and our ability to care for others.
