Luckily Gerald you are not the first one and certainly not the last one to be "new" here. The guys at ActiveRain have put together a pretty good blog directed at giving someone just starting some pointers. You can find it here.

If you have any questions about how to do something on the site, feel free to ask (me or just about anyone with more than 30,000 points, they'll most likely have the answer).

Gerald, I've been playing around here for 4 months.  My advice is to read all you can, observe what others are doing that catches your attention, and then just try to develop your own style.  Start to comment and then start writing something every day.  Just share some experience or special thought that you have.
