Motivation

By
Title Insurance with Stewart Title of California

Hi Everyone, I have a meeting that I am doing this morning on motivation. I want to share a couple of notes with you and see if you agree.

Motivation is a mystery. Why does one salesperson see his first prospect at seven in the morning and another is just getting out of bed at ten? I don't know.

Give a lecture to a thousand people and one walks out and says " I'm going to change my life." Another walks out and says "I've heard all this before." Why is that? Why wouldn't both be affected the same way?

The Millionaire says to a thousand people, " I read this book and it started me on the road to tremendous wealth." Guess how many go out and get the book? Very few. Why wouldn't everyone get the book?

My suggestion would be to walk away from the 90% who don't and jump on the bus with the 10% that do. Get Motivated and have a great day today.

Good luck with the meeting. Motivation IS a mystery, and you've made some great points here.  Much to think about...

I have read a ton of these books.  There is so much room at the top, everyone that wants to be there will get there.  How many want to?  How many have too much on thier plate?

Scott,

Motivation is internal and personal. All you have to do is connect with someone. They'll do the rest.

I agree with Steve. Motivation is internal and personal.  I read those motivational books.  I find them fascinating.  I think that even if people grow up with the same upbringing, same family, there can be big differences in motivation. I guess that why they say "different strokes for different folks."

The motivation comes from within based on years of history that person has experienced and their reaction to those experience. If you are a positive person you will see the positive or potential for good in everything.  Some people can see the silver lining others just see the gray clouds.

Scott I read recently in a book that was mentioning peak performers (there is a book titled this as well which I am reading next) called swim with the sharks Harvey Mackay. Basically it talks quite a bit about motivation but it treats peak performers as something different. Its someone who always gets the job done.. when it comes time to perform they steal the show and yet sometimes it seems like they sleep in or stare out the window.

It made me think a lot about myself. I worked from 7am until almost 8:30 pm the last 2 days. Then I came home and worked more. Yet today I was tired and didnt need to be in the office until a bit later. I will be working late again tonight. Most likely 8 or later again. Am I unmotivated? I wouldnt say so but someone might perceive me relaxing one morning as being lazy. I guess it really only works for someone who is motivated to begin with and someone who is always ready to make the sale. I wouldnt say I am perfect far from it in fact but I was analyzing my past behaviors. It is interesting to think about.

Ok... so there are 5 people in my sibling group.   My sister is from my mom's first husband and the 4 of us from her second.   My sister, who I love, is a glass half empty person... she just can't get out of her own way.... The rest of us...Wake up singing... I am always in awe of how my brothers and I share a completely different out look on life than her.   Genetics?

Motivation... Every day is Christmas... just unwrap the day with expectancy and and be surprised at what will happen!  Have fun with your meeting...

I tend to be a positive person but recently found myself getting a little down.  WOW, was that depressing, so I pulled myself up by the proverbial bootstraps and changed my habits.  I stopped complaining about things around me that I can't control (to remain nameless) and got back to work.  How can you expect to make a living when you spend half your day complaining????

Thanks for the blog Scott.

Scott, motivation is what gets me going each and every day. It's a motivation that takes on many different aspects but yet is what gets all of us through a day and onto the next. Hopefully, it's a good motivation!

Motivation, Does come from within..We are what we think..I agree with other above on this.  The hard part for some is getting started.  A positive attitued has everything to do with becoming motivated mixed with a little success it grows and grows!!!

You can't motivate anyone else. It must come from within. Gary Keller of Keller Williams makes good use of personality profiles when hiring staff and agents. Utilization of the DISC and AVA show us that specific personality profiles have a better chance of success in this business. Once a person understands who they are only then can they use that knowledge to find the source of their own personal motivation. And we must remember that not everyone's goal is to be a top producer. We cannot put our own vision of success on other people because their goals might be different than ours.
