Balance
Life has a way of balancing itself. Isn't that the principle of ying/yang? There are discouraging days and building days. Today was a building day. A new contact was made that smacked of my first days in real estate. I've been drip e-mailing new listings to a wanna be client for over a year. I doubted she would ever buy as she was a nurse's aid and had limited income. My skeptic's mind is usually counterbalanced by my believer's heart so I kept e-mailing. The call came from her significant other. He had a lot of questions for me. How can others make money in real estate yet he's still renting? Why should he rent his brother's house for $1500 a month if he can get a house for that? Why should he take on a loan as big as a mortgage? On and on he asked basic "never owned a house" questions. I felt that old helping side of me awaken and the thrill of explaining good vs. bad debt and that he's better off paying his own mortgage rather than his landlord's, etc. This novice wanna be owner balances out the rash of picky, putzy buyers that have come my way recently. The ones who don't want to buy the house because there's a tiny hole in the screen or the bathroom is painted the wrong color or it's too this or that. The ones who back out when things are discovered on the inspection. The commission is nice from these picky buyers, but the reward is in the buyer that really never believed s/he could buy and then does. There's no greater satisfaction than being the one to facilitate their success.
