Anti-tip on range verify

By
Home Inspector with Domicile Analysis of Texas

Are you aware of a anti-tipping device is install on your free standing range. An anti-tipping device ia a metal bracket that is anchored on the floor or wall to catch the range from tipping forward when some pressure is applied to the oven door. The oven industry introduced the anti-tip bracket intended to secure ovens in 1991.

Make sure the proper anti-tip device is installed correctly. If you are remodeling your kitchen, buying a new range or building a new home, make sure the installer uses the anti-tip device provided by the manufacturer.

There is normally a warning label around the door opening of the oven.

Hi Roy Chuck here, during our inspections we look behind every stove and in over 5 years I have only seen 2 anti tipping devices. Great post and we should call this out as we are looking for safety issues too.

I can see this devise being of some use if an unruley child opens the oven door, stands on the door and the stove falls on top of them.  Then a bunch of people could be sued.
