Today Bill and I took the Core Law class that is necessary to renew our licenses. There is always something to learn, changes that have taken place in the law. One of the things that it seems is being discussed again is requiring at least an AA Degree to become a broker. Naturally, this won't make any difference for those who already have their broker license, but for newbies it will add another requirement.
I would love to get the opinions of my fellow Realtors on that one. Personally, since I have a MA Degree, it would not change anything. I am planning on finally getting my broker license after the first of the year anyway. I do feel that requiring some type of a degree is a good thing - something beyond a high school diploma. Requiring at least an AA Degree for a Realtor and a BA Degree for a broker seems totally realistic - what other profession can you go into with only a high school diploma? If we had that requirement perhaps people would view our profession differently. The average citizen has no idea how many hours of continuing education most of us take! They assume we sit in a classroom for a couple of days and walk out with a license. Being a Realtor means constant training to stay on top of changes in so many areas!
Bringing a little RESPECT to our profession is something that is long overdue!
If you think I am off the wall with that idea, let me know - I would love to hear your feedback!!!!
