Changes: 3 post limit for scoring, associate group descriptions, a few bugs

By
Real Estate Technology with ActiveRain

Just a couple of small changes.

  1. We were getting a lot of negative feedback about our open ended scoring on blogs (which was actually a mistake on my part but we thought we'd let it slide for a few days) ... so it's back to 3 blogs posts a day for automatic scoring (and 5 a day max).
  2. You can now add a descriptions to your associate groups... when viewing  the group, near the top, there's a "edit description" link.
  3. A few bugs cleaned up in notifications

Will be trying hard to get much improved search starting tomorrow...

Ben, you are doing a bang up job.  As for people complaining, let me remind everyone that this is a FREE service. If you don't like it, don't use it.  Considering the phenominal growth of the site and the many new features, I can't believe how fast things have been updated. Paid services could learn a thing or two from ActiveRain. -Charles

Thanks, Ben. I appreciate the "fine tuning" that you do on our behalf. I have noticed a great number of people who blog, blog, and blog some more. They blog about the weather, they blog about what they fixed for dinner, they blog about their pets, and on and on they blog. Now maybe, these blogs are truly genuine, and there are others out there that really do find the time to read these literary gems. Or, maybe, just maybe, someone's trying to rack up points with their endless ramblings. Who knows?

Maybe I should write a blog about it?

Rory has a point.  Why not cap the number of points one can get for inviting to 2 a day or something?

I agree with Rory.  It seems to me it's getting harder and harder to surpass or even catch up to many of those who were here early on.  The point system back then was very generous in some respects and there are some groups (whether it's because they belong to the same office/company or because they're part of some "elite" group of their own outside of AR) who automatically raise each other's point system thereby manipulating their standing.

Though the "old-timers" no doubt would disagree with me, I don't think any of their 'old' points should be grandfathered in whenever there is a change in how many points are given for different things.  For example, there are AR members who scored 100 points each time they were "Added as Associate of _____" -- whereas now we don't get any points whenever someone adds us as an associate.

Early entrants were richly rewarded for growing the network while newer entrants have to work 2+ times as hard just to try to catch up to the point where it seems impossible given the new point scoring system.  I don't mean to sound bitter... it's just I'm big on "fairness" and some of what I've seen does not seem fair to me.  I seriously doubt I'm alone in my thinking.

It would be too timeconsuming (and unfair) to redo points from before a rule change.  I came in after the "lots of points" but don't have a grouch for that - I could have joined sooner, but I didn't.

So, some add associates and some blog - well, some are buyers agents and some are sellers agents and some are mortgage brokers, etc.

Life is long, and grandfathering is short. Go with the flow, and be pleased with improvements to the system.

Leanne,

After viewing your scoring summary, I would say that for being relatively new to AR, you seem to be on a good track. You could easily take over first position in Broward County at your current pace. Unseating the top AR members in FL may prove to be difficult, given that they are really active. But if you discipline yourself to continue to use AR consistently, it will definitely payoff. Take a longer, big picture approach. I have very confidence that the staff of AR are working very hard to make the system fair for everyone!

There's something to be said for getting in on the 'ground floor' I guess.  While it is frustrating to have to be so very active to be able to get points and thus be more widely known and visible, the nature of this site is rewarding in of itself.  While visibility is nice, the information and knowledge sharing going on can be just as rewarding both long term and even in perhaps getting some semblance of increased business.  Just a thought, don't know how the 'ground floor' ones got in, but kudos to them....the point system should be balanced fairly though here on forth.

So, what's the scoop now? comment max per day for points? Blogs per day for points? Localism photos per day for points? Are localism posts and AR posts given the same value and combined limit per day for points? (Personally, I don't think I will ever reach maximums because I'm too slow and tend to reinvent the wheel with each post, I just wondered what the guidelines are now). I attempted to find out through the search engine, but I keep wandering in circles then get distracted eventually landing somewhere totally foreign to me and unrelated to my original quest. Take Broker Bryants Blog today for instance. I enjoyed his writing as usual, then I thought, "What the Heck, I'll visit his U-Tube posts. You can guess what happened then... I laughed, laughed some more . Maybe you'll have mercy on me, just tell me, please. Don't make me search...chitra:-)  PS: What is considered "a day" at Active Rain? Is it 24 hours? A certain time to a certain time?
