I'm Hooked, Addicted, and In Love!

Services for Real Estate Pros with Marketing 4 Realtors

twitterI'm hooked.  Not hooked on drugs or hooked on phonics or any of those other kinds of "hooked."  I'm hooked on Twitter.

Did I resist when first approached to come over and play?  Why yes, yes I did.  What on earth is the point of it?  Why would I want to see what people are doing every minute of the day?  Can we say B-O-R-I-N-G boys and girls?  Why yes, yes we can!  But it isn't like that at all.  It is absolutely NOTHING like what I thought it would be - and that's because I didn't KNOW what to expect.

For those of you still on the fence about Twitter, take the leap! I've heard it called "micro-blogging" and twhirl"instant messaging on steroids" among other things.  But it is so much more than that.  It is an opportunity to connect with people, to become ALIVE with people, not just words on a page. Therein lies the fun! I set up an account with Twitter to see if there were any real business opportunities to be had there.  Little did I know that you connect there in a much more profound and deeper level than even here which, as we all know, leads to more business.

friendsI have to admit that I'm addicted to Twhirl, too!  LUV IT!  Twhirl is a desktop application that allows your Tweets (the streams of conversation) to flow on your desktop. That way, you don't have to keep the Twitter website open to participate, which is extremely helpful to me as I always have a ton of web browser pages open.  One less is nice!  If you've ever used an instant messenger service (AM, Yahoo, MSN Messenger), Twhirl is very similar.

While participating in conversations through Twhirl, I've met some absolutely AWESOME people!  Like Elaine Hanson, Toby Boyce, Sarah Cooper, Kim Wood, Susie Blackmon, and Desiree Daniels.  Now, I may have read or commented on their blogs here or elsewhere but I didn't really know them.  Now, I feel like I am on the road to knowing them for real!

I also fell in love through Twitter! What happened?  I met Jeff Turner.  Now, we don't agree on certain subjects but that's ok.  As Jeff said "we don't need to agree."  (Gotta luv a man who can agree to disagree!)  But my favorite thing about Jeff is that he is a strong proponent of Virtual Assistants. That and the fact that he tirelessly assists while stirring up thought. He and so many others on Twitter are just so much fun.  Why don't you come on over and join us?

Hi @renae_m4r!  I was just thinking of a post like this today!  I was also reluctant to jump in, but have learned so much from the other Tweeters.  i was glued to the BlogWorld updates, for both fun and education.  People on Twitter are very welcoming and helpful.  Thanks for the mention!

@renae_m4r I'm glad that you've seen the extended uses we all get out of Twitter besides just answering "What are you doing?". I also use Twhirl, but I've heard Tweetdeck has some nice grouping features for Twitter, so I'm going to look at that next week.

You're not behind, Tammy, you're just not as up as others! Never address the negative! Besides, there's a quick and easy way to fix this...  Just sign up for a Twitter account (oh, and start using it!)!

That is totally cool, Richard!  I'd love to meet some of my Twitter pals in real life.  But to be talking to someone on Twitter one night and then meet that person by chance the next day is just another prime example of just how small a world we really live in!

No, it isn't like Reunion.com at all Michele. It is free and they say it will stay that way.  So go ahead and take the plunge and let me know what you think!

You are absolutely right, Richard. Twitter can definitely take up a lot of your time but so can social neworking in general. What I mean is, that problem isn't specific to Twitter. You've got to pace yourself and organize your time to get the most value from the networking. But the payoff can be outstanding!

Well, Kelly, did you give it a try? If so, what do you think?

Oh, yes, Sally - come on over to the dark side! What's your Twitter ID so I can follow you?

I hope you'll follow me, Audrey.  I'll follow you back!

Hey Elaine!  I absolutely love how helpful everyone was in getting me up and running.  You just can't buy that!

Great Terrylynn!  Come on over and let me know when you get set up.  I'll follow you!

I'm sure you'll love it after about a day, Spencer.  Just holler if you have questions using it!

I'm not sure how anyone can get anything meaningful out of just posting "what am I doing now" answers, John.  I think the fact that so many people have come to realize the same thing is what makes it so great!  I downloaded Tweetdeck on Saturday and tried using it. I guess I haven't figured it out yet because it didn't seem much easier to use than Twhirl but maybe I still need to play with it a bit.  I'm back on Twhirl today.  No time to play with Tweetdeck right now.

Twitter seems to be a great tool to get to know people, Michelle.  Check it out when you get a chance!

I thought the same thing, Dane.  I thought I wouldn't like it when I initially started using it but once I started having conversations with people, I started liking it more and more.

I don't think anyone really understands it at first, Kristina, but I think that's true for everything. If you stick with it for a bit, you'll catch on!

It is sooooo much fun, Kimberley!  Now that I've developed some relationships, it is a lot more fun than it was when I initially signed up.

Virginia - I'm so sorry that you're having a difficult time with Twitter.  Here's a link to a great post on how to feed Twitter to Facebook: http://activerain.com/blogsview/714142/Activerain-added-Twitter-Feature.  If you have any other specific questions, please let me know.  I'll do my best to answer them!
