Neither Rain, nor sleet nor snow. The United States Post Office Delivers.

We live in a small, rural Texas town. Nice distance to and from Houston, Dallas and Austin.

Ike was coming.  Here come the relatives from Houston to stay out of the storms path.

We are sitting in the living room visting and the lights go out.  Then the rains starts, the wind

and we are in a hurricane.  The outskirts but still in it.

Don't know why but somebody said, Well should we go check the mail.  Everybody laughed because there

was no way that anybody was going out to deliver the mail in a hurricane.  Our mailbox is at the street

and is delivered by the postal worker in a jeep.

The utilities come on late Sunday.  Monday morning I go to the mailbox and the mail is there.

It is soggy but it is there.  That mail was delivered Saturday during the hurricane because I also received

mail Monday afternoon.  I guess the postal service takes their motto seriously.

Thanks for the dedication but next time I'll be willing to wait for my bills.

Brenda, that is very cool. I like dedicated workers. I bet that person had a lot of incentive to get the job done as fast as possible with all that was going on over there. Our union has it hooked up that we can receive our medications through the mail. I bet there were a bunch of people counting on receiving very important mail besides the usual round of bills and circulars. Very cool, indeed... :-)

I have found out, though, that they won't deliver mail if there's a dog anywhere near the mailbox. Doesn't even matter how big the dog is. As they told me, "All dogs can bite." I had three choices:

  1. Get rid of the dog
  2. Move the mailbox
  3. Rent a post office box.

I got rid of the dog. Not really. I moved the mailbox.
