The Coloradoan reports that according to local banks, while national financial news is a real cause for concern, they aren't directly tied to the banking debacle. Lorna Reeves, senior vice president and branch manager of Cache Bank and Trust said, "The general public gets misinformation about what real banks are. We're just not part of this subprime debacle. In actuality, most banks are safe because they don't enter into those kinds of practices." Tom Behr, senior vice president of First Western Trust Bank, said First Western doesn't have any investments in fallen companies such as Freddie Mac so there is no direct effect on its customers. He added, "We've been able to shield our clients from this exposure."
