Okay, this is my first "blog". So, please be patient with me if I ramble! But, I have been reading so many other blogs that are wonderful, and I feel I need to vent just a bit!
I am a newer agent (a couple of years into business) and unfortunately have seen my fair share of backstabbing already. But, it has not been done to me yet....thank God!!! So, I go on with my story....
I had a client call me a few days ago on a property I had listed. She fell in love with it and wanted to make an offer. I had asked if she was being represented, she said no. Great! Moving right along...
When I met her at her office the next morning to pick up an earnest money check and have the REPC signed, she mentioned how she was so ecstatic because she had lost two other properties she placed offers on in the previous weeks. RED LIGHT!!!!! You've put in other offers recently? Was there a particular agent you were working with? Are you STILL working with this agent? Her response... "Well, yes, actually I am, does it matter?" YES!!!!! Okay, by this time, we were on the last page of the contract, so I fixed the buyers agent name and company to her agents information (I happen to have worked with him before) and told her to meet with him later to sign Due Dilligence paperwork, but I will drop off contract at his office.
When I took the copy of the accepted contract back to this agent this morning, he stopped me to thank me. I told him I was glad we could get the contract done - it's a great property. He says "No, for being honest and bringing me the contract that you had my client sign. Any other agent in this town would have tried to steal her from underneath me because she didn't disclose she was working with me. I appreciate your honesty and integrity".
I was flattered, yet confused. Aren't we supposed to do the right thing? Any agent who would have listened to the client would have known eventually that there was another agent involved. It's not necessarily the other agents fault that the client is having a "brain fart" and can't remember anything other than how much they want the property.....is it? This is one of the first things I learned when I joined the board to get my Realtor pin. Code of Ethics ring a bell????? It pains me to think that we can be so consumed by making money that we forget to respect each other and how hard we work to get our clients that when opportunity arises we try to play dumb and pretend we didn't know there was another agent involved.
So, for all of you upstanding Realtors who are bound by "the Golden Rule", I commend you! I am proud to have you as my colleagues! And, to the rest of you who try to be sneaky to make a quick buck....shame shame shame on you!
