Birds and Transmogrification

In the interest of full disclosure; as life long Republican, I am a little right of center and Kay, the stunning love of my life, is a life long Liberal Democrat.

Side by side, we watched the entire prime-time broadcasts of both conventions.

The Democrats hatched a stellar show... great camera angles... great words: star dust from the mount sprinkled on the enraptured... tears of joy... fluted columns and stuff.  This was grand theater and, I became deeply concerned for Truth, Justice and the American Way

So you can understand why I was a little down in the mouth when we switched on the Republican show; I thought it was going to be a early wake for a November funeral.

And then...and then there was Sarah, that hair, those glasses, the assured smile and she is "cute enough to sing the Chinese national anthem".  OMG, Sarah's looks and attitude fanned my burning ember of hope and instantly I knew the Republican campaign was transmogrified... even the Kay was slightly impressed.

The best thing is...who would believe the Republicans out theatered the Democrats; out showbized, showbiz. It was a grand spectacle that caused the world to fall in love except, of course, panic-stricken Democrats, which is always fun to see.

The next morning flocks of Network and Hollywood types scurried to and from, furiously kicking their birdseed, screeching "pregnant unwed daughter", "no experience" and worst cut of all "how can she be a mother and vice-president" powerful stuff.  I have never seen the like, every Dem and all their assistants in unified full frontal attack on the surprise seal of their doom.

Ok, the birdbrain proposition was unkind; instead, lets picture a politically-correct, gender-neutral, Africian/Hispanic/Exetera-American encased in very stylish armor (I see bellbottoms); a fey Galahad wielding toothpicks against a gorgeous Republican dragon.

Friday evening the campaign finally became serious and our candidates debated severe financial and world matters.  While nothing was settled and there was no winner, at least the moderator posed intelligent questions and both candidates responded in kind.  Of course, deep in my heart, I know that my guy really won.  Kay felt the same, differently.

Early next week after inappropriate amounts of: each candidate's presidential sound bites, congressional hand wringing and posturing, congress will bail our financial institutions from the effect of their stupidity, excess and greed.  Remember, birds of a feather...

Then finally, on November 5th Americans will wake up to a new president, the world still spinning on the same axis, life as we knew it continued and, through our bedroom window a soft San Diego breeze will blow across a content Conservative tightly snuggled with a Liberal Democrat

Hi Bill- Loved your post from title to end!  It was well thought out and beautifully written.  A touchy subject as I am also conservative, but my Mother is a life long Democrat.  To express ones views that may be opposite of anothers can be treading on shaky ground.  But luckily we can agree to disagree respectfully.  I am somewhat envious of your San Diego soft cool breeze, as it's been in the upper 90's in Riverside County.  I'll be tuned into the Vice Presidental debates tonight, as I am sure you and Kay will be too!  Have a great evening.
