What's That Smell Coming From Shea Stadium? Oh, It's the Mets!

The Mets Stink

Let me say this right off the bat (no pun intended).....I'm originally from New York. I lived moments from Shea Stadium and I grew up loving the Mets...But, I have to say that the Mets stink.

Every sports prognosticator had picked the Mets to win the NL East, the National League Pennant and many even had the Mets winning it all.

But on the last day of the season, the one thing that plagued the Mets all season, their bullpen, once again proved their demise.

With 27 blown saves this season, the Mets bullpen was tied for worst in the major leagues.

Sure, guys like David Wright and Jose Reyes had great seasons. Carlos Delgado was on fire since the All-Star break and Johan Santana, a pre-season acquisition who was the "missing cog" that was supposed to insure a pennant, did do his part.

But, once again, and just like last season, the bullpen killed the dream.

Omar Minaya, the Mets general manager, did nothing at the trading deadline, and the Mets fate was just about sealed.

So, there will be no baseball in New York this October.

I'm quite certain there won't be many replies to this blog expressing sympathy for me or Mets or Yankees fans. But I just had to vent!

I'm rooting for the Chicago Cubs in the National League and the Los Angeles Angels in the American League.

And with all due respect to the long suffering Cubs fans, you had a great season. I wish you well. But I'm picking the Angels to win it all.

I welcome your thoughts sports fans......

Oh, did I forget to mention that it's now really officially hockey season? New York Rangers in seven!!!

From those of us who would rather cheer on the Padres than any team from NY, on to hockey seaon. This is the year of the Sabres. I still have the  bumper sticker to put up in the office you know!

I think the nice people of Boston would be more than willing to let you, New Yorkers, borrow the phrase we said for 86 years. "There's always next year."

I have to say that I was on a little boat cruise Sunday night during the final game at the stadium...and even the 'last game celebration' was disapointing.  They had 2 fireworks go up and that was it...  A blah end to a great landmark which housed a sad baseball team...

If I were the Mets management I would keep Jerry Manuel and trade all of the players.  It seems to me they just don't know how to win together as a group...

Even in the "lean" years, the Mets focused on building teams around pitching. Pitching, especially the bullpen, has failed this team miserably the past few seasons. Very frustrating as a fan.

I am from NY but live in PA. I am so disgusted even though I am a Yankee fan. I want anyone but the Phillies to win. Oh well, its not that serious but what are they paying the Mets and Yankees such huge salaries for??
