Water Quality in Southeast North Carolina

What do you do to get good quality water in your home?  This should be an interesting read especially for me being that we have Hard Water with Iron and Sulfur.  We have installed different name brand softeners and iron removing filters but on occasions evidence shows up in the house.  Is there a way to consistently remove these items from your water?  We spent thousands of dollars on our system thinking you get what you pay for but not so.  I would like to hear responses from everyone who has experienced or experiences that problem and how they have handled the issue with the results.  If you are as frustrated as we are this should be an interesting blog.
