Lost my First Big Deal Because of the Tough Economic Times

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker

Well, it was bound to happen.  We've certainly been feeling the slowdown, with sellers not being able to sell and buyers unwilling to move forward, but my business partner and I thought we finally had one in the bag.  Of course, thankfully, I NEVER count my chickens before they hatch...

We had written an offer for a client in Del Mar - she had $800k cash on a $1 million purchase, so we felt fairly confident the deal would go through.  Well, with the continuation of dire news on a daily basis, our client suddenly felt that, within the span of a week, the amount she was willing to pay for the property in question just plummeted drastically.  So drastically, in fact, she probably wouldn't buy the property at any price just now.

Never have I seen such a scary state of affairs.  I thank my lucky stars for all that I do have and will hold on tight to make sure I don't lose it all!

Hi Eva - Sorry to see this happen to you! These are difficult times and the credit/stock market is taking a beating. We can only hope those in Congress will make smart decisions that will stop the bleeding before it gets worse! BTW - your Twit is what got me to your AR post. That's how it works!

Truly a shame to hear and it's unfortunate what's going on.  The entire financial industry is being shaken to it's core.  The coming days mark historic times and we all better be paying attention.

Consumer confidence needs to drastically improve if things are going to somehow change....but personally I think, no matter what gets done, we're years away from that.  Bailout or no bailout.  Turning the mindset around of John Q Taxpayer is going to be a brutally painful process.

All I can say is, if you aren't supporting yourself with Real Estate or being supported by a spouse while in Real Estate, what's your plan B?  Life doesn't stop and neither do the bills.  I've already witnessed agents come into this business within the last 2-3 months, only to already leave it.  Very sad to see.

Bobby - Thanks for all your support.  As for a plan B, Nick, I guess I 'd better start brainstorming, just in case...

Hang in there....I've been in and around this business for 28 of my 43 yrs.  I've definitely seen the ups and downs.  Just remain positive, things will turn around, and that next big deal just might be right around the corner!
