Eat to Live

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Central Coast

I have been called a "Health Nut" since I was 18. Now that I am 55 many others are out there trying to be healthy too. It does pay off. My 5 sisters have gray hair and I still have my color. I remember my kids watching a commercial on TV years ago, telling me I did not need Jenny Craig because I exercised and ate the right way. I was a vegetarian when someone barbequed and served me tri tip so my kids started calling me a tritipatarian :o)

I have always taken care of things first..then I eat. It's a habit. I end up eating later than I should I know. Even when I am hungry if my chickens need feed or water or I see something I need to do (like I just picked up about 50 walnuts that fell from our tree on walkway), I will do it "quickly" first and then make myself something to eat afterwards.

Lately because of being a Realtor I have been very busy and it has been difficult for me to find the time or chance to eat something. I was starting to make wrong food choices. I always seek balance in my life so I have gone back to my healthy memories and recipes and I am starting to eat the right way again.

As I did years ago, I plan on sprouting my own sprouts in a large mouth jar with screen or cheese cloth around the opening. Very healthy and full of protein. I am going to start to drink wheatgrass as I heard it is VERY exceptionally healthy for you!

Especially in Fall and Winter, I make my own soups starting with olive oil, chopped onion and garlic. They are so comforting and filling And healthy. Black bean and my chili soup are my family's favorites, mine too. I make a big pot full and it lasts a long time..a quick meal in a hurry with a piece of healthy toast. Yummy!

I make a big fresh salad and keep it in tupper ware container in the frig. It is all ready when I need it. It takes a whileto make the first day but it lasts all week and saves my time later when I am tired and Hungry! I chop up brocolli, red bell pepper, red onion, red leaf lettuce, celery, carrots, radishes, brown mushrooms, and then add chopped tomatoe, cilantro, avocado, sprouts, roasted unsalted sunflower seeds, grated Asiago cheese and black olive slices on top when I eat it...topped with my homemade dressing made with olive oil, balsamic, wine and apple cider vinegars, garlic powder, honey and mustard, sometimes with a sprinkle of Ranch too. It is delicious and makes me feel special to have such a wonderful salad to eat for myself that is nutritious. I know it is making me healthier.

I read alot and over the years I have learned: Raw fruits and vegetables are very good for you. The fresher the foods we eat the healthier we are. We reap what we sew so put ALIVE foods in your body if you want to live. The healthier I choose to eat the healthier I am and the better my food choices are, cravings for sugar go away. Being a Realtor I am all about making the best choices for the best outcome. And God promises to bless our efforts with success :o)  The Art of Real Estate   Thanks for reading my post. Nicolette

Hi Nicolette, excellent point about the fresh fruits and vegetables. I have gotten much better with this over time and even had some straweberries this morning. If you can make this a habit you can fill yourself up on the good stuff and stay away from all the processed foods. Putting things in Tupperware or little baggies help reaching for them convenient too.

Hi Nicolette, it is wonderful to find a fellow vegetarian / healthy eater.  My kids (both adults now) don't really like junk food or fast food.  They won't even eat packaged food.  So I guess that teaching them to eat healthy paid off!  Even though it's hard to stay on track with the media, peer pressure, and when you're in a hurry!

I believe that God gives us our bodies and expects us to take care of them.  Our bodies are His temple so we have to put the "best" into them!
