This is a great site to pick up, and share new ideas. Join some groups that interest you. You may find it addicting. Maybe they should re-name this ia AddictiveRain. :)
One way to get to know folks is to comment on their blogs -- you'll also have the opportunity to read their profiles and previous blogs which represent diverse points of view.
You may notice the Help/FAQ tab --- click on that and you'll find so many blogs on how-tos, etc. That may be the best place to start to figure out the ins and outs of blogging on this site.
