What do you think? Share your two cents

This post is not part of my professional life or opinion, just a writing after sitting around thinking about this mess our country is in.  It's not a surprise, it's been coming for a long time.    I hope you don't mind but this is more of a personal rant that I just can't hold inside anymore, so hold onto your hat :o)  .....I don't know if others are feeling the same way....feel free to share your two cents!!!

I am deeply saddened by what has happened to this country.  How in the world did we get into this mess?

What the heck happened???  Why did this happen???  Did someone fall asleep at their job???

I'm not a finger pointer but.......

At a time when we are paying the most taxes (state/federal/real estate, etc.)  the most for gas(it's been a little easier at the pump), heating oil, electricity, gas, phones, food, the most for basically everything we need in life.  Not what we want but what we NEED!

We are paying and paying and paying and now they are asking us to PAY SOME MORE!  Have you ever tried to get blood from a stone?  This is the position that the average american is being put in.  I have a feeling that soon we won't be able to afford anything.

What happened to the day, that you would only spend what you can really afford.  Simple economics to me.  There are absolutely some things in this world you need to finance, but you don't need to finance your grocery shopping on your credit card.  The Flinstones taught us to say "Charge It" now who is going to re-teach us to say cash.  I love my debit card, I can only spend what I have.  I think that credit should be saved for an emergency only and should be paid off as soon as financially possible.  The average American is living paycheck to paycheck, (and sometimes there is more monthly bills left at the end of the month than income), a small emergency can put you into a complete tail spin.  I'm not even going to touch what businesses are doing.

I think our contries debt is scarey enough, I would be frightened to learn what the total debt is being carried by the people of the country.

If I over extended myself financially, made some bad investment decisions, loaned money to people that I didn't know very well, bought things I shouldn't of bought, didn't plan responsibly, etc.(this is what it sounds like this bail out is helping), who would be there to help me?  NO ONE  I would be on my own to fix whatever nightmare I got myself into.  I can just picture my mother standing there saying you got yourself into this mess now you need to get your self out of it!!!

One thing I think that has had a huge impact on the problems of America is "Made In America".  I walked through a store one day paying close attention to where all these wonderful things that are available for me to spend my hard earned money on, and believe it or not, I could not find ONE THING that said MADE IN AMERICA! or MADE IN THE U.S.A.  So I did not spend my money made in America.  Even in our grocery stores, where is a good portion of our fresh fruit and vegetables coming from?  Do you pay attention to the labels when you buy?  If we did buy made in the U.S.A. do you think that would help our economy?  I do, I know I would be willing to pay more for a product that I know was helping to support our economy, our people.

We need to make it harder and more expensive for the companies that are in our country to have their products made outside this country.  I was reading that there are companies that are not paying taxes in this country because they have businesses in other countries and they can re-invest the money there and not pay taxes here.  That just doesn't sound right to me.

We need to wake up and smell the coffee, and we need to do it soon.  We need to get to the root of the problems in this country and fix them before they bleed us completely dry and put us in to a debt that our great-great-great-great grandchildren will be paying, if not their great-great-great grandchildren. (I think you get the picture) We need to stop this and be responsible.  We are not doing ourselves or our children any favors!!!

America has always been a generous country with its aid.  But how can we continue to give aid to others when our own country is in such a mess?  We have so many problems here at home that we just seem to ignore.  We need to start helping ourselves first before helping people of other countries.  We need to start making people take responsibility for themselves, not looking for aid.

I am no economist, or financial person, I am just an average American who sees this country going in directions that I don't like.

There have been  many things that this country has done that I just don't agree with.  Have we become so soft that we just roll with the flow instead of standing up and shouting at the top of our lungs!!!  Why are we allowing ourselves to get walked all over in our own country?

Personally I think we were better off when I was a child 25 or so years ago then we are today.  Then again I may be wrong because I was seeing it through the eyes of a child.  But a lot of people that I talk to say remember when......what ever it was being better than it is today.

Let see in 1966 when my parents bought their 4 bedroom, 2 bath colonial with a two car garage for $19,000 at a 19% interest rate and in 1992 I bought my 3 bedroom, 1 bath ranch with a four car garage for $127,000 at an interest rate of 7.5%.  Who do you think had the better deal?

I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop here.  This is just a small portion of my rantings these days.  There seems to be so many things that have changed, and it doesn't seem to be for the better.  It actually felt good to get this off my chest and into writing to share and see what other people think. I'm fairly sure that I'm not the only one thinking like this.

One last thought for this rant.....It feels like the brunt of this countries problems are being carried on the shoulders of the average American.  I personally think everything should be pro-rated. The more income you make the more you pay, not the more write-offs you get!

Thanks for bearing with me :o)  I hope you have a fantastic day!

Actually, the total debt of about $10 trillion is being carried by other countries. Therein lies the problem. The economies of all these nations carrying our debt is inherently linked to our economy, so if anything in this little nation of a mere 350 million people fails, it affects the other economies nations having more than six billion people. I think there's going to come a time when someone, such as the European Union, OPEC, or China, calls our debt due. Then we're going to need someone to bail out our country, perhaps buying a 51% controlling interest. That's when I hope I'm dead because I don't think it's going to be pretty.
