Text Messaging for 60 year olds.

I have been emailing , calling , writing post cards and doing everything under the sun to stay in touch with my prospects and clients.  I find myself waiting and waiting and waiting for people to get back to me;  and then one day a couple of weeks ago someone text me!  I said 'huh?'and then I text back and it was just the beginning.  Now I am texting everyone!   Wow!  What a difference.  I started talking about it to the other agents and it's amazing.  Very few agents in my age group are aware of the ease of use and the power of texting.

I do hope that people in my age group read this message or younger people think to bring this to the attention of older Realtors.  I have been stumbling around without this for a decade and I wish someone had poked me earlier.

I still need to thank that customer who helped bring me into the 21st century!

I am only 56. I do Email pretty well but text messaging is not something I do. It drives me nuts when my provider sends me a message. I think it is significant and is a promo.

Joe...Congratulations to you!!!  I went to a Realtor.com marketing forum several weeks ago and they shared the number of text messages that are sent daily.  It was mind boggling!!!  If you have grandkids, I am sure they spend more time texting than talking.  This does not promote good interactive skills nor does it help you keep up proper grammer with all of the abbreviations.

It does though indicate that it has become a way of life for the younger generation.  As this generation become more prominent buyers, we will have to find a way to text new listing information to those that are looking to buy, text blogging posts to those that subscribe, text to all clients when website updates are done, and on and on.  Congrats again!!!

Steven,  I don't know if ease of use is an issue for you.  Pardon me , if it is not.  I had tried texting earlier but the phone I had was very clumbsy.  I now have a Treo and whenever someone texts me it just pops up and it's very simple compared to my old phone.  Having a full keyboard , made all the differance in the world for me.  I also had to change my phone plan so that the texts would not a fortune.

Sergio,  Yes, I also attended a Realtor.com seminar , and heard the same stats.  I guess the idea was growing on me.  It is very clear to me that the internet and technology skills are vital to service the younger set particularly.  thank you for your insights!
