NAHREP Convention: Meeting AR Members

It feels like ages since I have attended to my blog.  The last week has been exasperating for me.  Last Wednesday I spent half the day in the ER after the first half was spent in agonizing pain.  It turns out I had an infection for quite a while which explains my grogginess for the past few weeks.

After being placed on antibiotics and resting for a few days, I went into the weekend attending the NAHREP convention in Phoenix, AZ.  NAHREP is the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals.

I joined NAHREP a little over a week age after speaking with Victor Montalvo, fellow AR member, a few times.  Victor is the Austin, TX chapter President and had emailed me a few weeks ago about the organization which I had never heard of before.

At the convention I met quite a few people from all over our great nation who are passionate about the organization.  I have hopes of one day opening a chapter in my area and am currently a member of the Phoenix, AZ chapter.

The convention was a lot of fun and I learned some things, but the best part was meeting fellow AR's, Victor and also Brian Requarth who founded the group The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals on AR.  It is always nice to meet the people we speak to on the Internet...to match the face to the picture on the screen.

NAHREP is all about empowering the real estate professionals that serve the Hispanic community to enable Hispanic clients to purchase sustainable housing.   I was immediately drawn to the organization once Victor explained to me that speaking Spanish is not necessary.  While I do speak some Spanish, I don't believe I speak enough to assist clients with contracts.  NAHREP teaches agents how to handle Spanish speaking clients.  NAHREP provides tools like manuals for real estate terminology, translators, a new web site designed for the Hispanic market and many others.

I am proud to be a member of NAHREP and I glad to have met Victor through AR.

What is the moral of my story?  Blogging actually works!  By being in the community actively involved I have now learned about a very important organization and I'm actually involved in that organization because of AR!  Being in a largely Hispanic area I am excited about the organization and the significant improvement it could make for real estate professionals and clients in my area.

Yes, I feel much better.  I wasn't sure what was going on.  I have an owner who is a registered nurse and when I spoke to her last Wednesday she said I was to hang up the phone immediately and call a doctor.  I didn't listen of course, but had to call my husband shortly after that when everything started spinning.  I should have listened to the nurse!  Thanks

Chastity - I really think it is a bonus when you meet AR members. I met Rich and some other members when they were here for Blog World. It's exciting! Great Active Rain Blog.

I am happy to hear you are feeling better. Thanks so much for attending the NAHREP convention and being a part of this group. I always enjoy meeting people from all over. There is so much great energy at NAHREP events and I have met many people that have turned out to be close friends.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Take care,

Hi Darling,

I did not know that you were feeling badly. I've been so busy this week that I've not been able to keep up with all the fires. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm also jealous that you got to go to the NAHREP convention. I served as the Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter president for three years. I'm just now stepping down...as life has become incredibly busy with the girls' arrival. I KNOW you had a great time!

When you get to the point that you are ready to start a chapter, I can give you some advice...as we started this chapter from scratch.

GBU, Chas!!

Brian - Thanks Brian.  I will let you know if I need anything.  Right now I just need to start going to meetings.  Cece was pretty busy with the convention so I don't have any details yet on what I'm doing.  It was great meeting you and the rest of the members.

Beth- I know I didn't say anything to you about not feeling well.  I have been debating on whether to post that or not...but I ended up posting it last night because I have been so out of it I felt I had neglecting AR.  I have been keeping up with my comments even though at times I am not sure I was coherent so I probably left some strange ones...lol.  I saw that you were president of your chapter.  I have been wondering how you find the time...4 girls, your business, NAHREP president...you have to be Wonder Woman!  I am really excited about starting a chapter if I actually get to.  They are talking about just making an East Valley chapter instead which is still a great distance from where I am.  I really want a chapter here.  I already have quite a few people interested and I have only spoken to people in my office here.  We have over 300 agents in our association so I know we would be able to support a chapter.  I would love to have you help.  I'll keep you posted.  I have been meaning to ask you if you received my email a week or so ago.  I haven't heard from you except in the rain so I just wanted to make sure everything is OK.  I also anxious to help you get your group moving.  GBU my sister!!

Hello Chastity,

I am so happy and honored that you made it to the conference. I am so sorry that I did not get to spend as much time as I would have like to have done. As one of the board members who took part on putting this conference together, there was a lot of work behind this conference. I am so happy and glad that you enjoyed, it, too.

Best wishes and if you need any further information about NAHREP look me up and I will help you the best of my knowledge.

big hug,

Do you have any information of what is happening with NAHREP.  I tried to login after many months unsuccessfully and was unable to get anyone on the phone.  I recieved emails from my inquiries stating they were cutting back on staff and the DC offices.

Any info?

Hi Victoria,

You are correct. NAHREP has cut back on staff to weather the downturn just like many companies. The moved the office to San Diego, where the organization was founded. What exactly aren't you able to access? I know that they also had an issue with their server when they migrated some data so the problems you are facing could be a result of that.
