Time for a Comeback for Large Families

By
Real Estate Agent with Surterre Properties

Have you noticed the influx and popularity of reality television showcasing large families? I'm not talking about four kids and a few pets. I'm talking 8, 12 even 16 children!

It seems the common thread in these shows is that the family unit is the most important thing. Consistency and multitasking ensures everyone knows their place and that their contribution is vital and appreciated.

You don't see a lot of "Keeping Up With the Jones" type attitude in these families. They are just living their lives and doing the best they can. And they seem to be truly happy.

For many of us, we strive to have the perfect children, a wonderful spouse and a beautiful home. Whew! That's a lot of pressure.

Maybe we should just get back to basics like our parents did and these large families seem to be doing.  It sure seems to work pretty well.

You know the saying, "Don't sweat the small stuff. And it's all small stuff."

Michael, I've noticed the fascination with large families also.  Chasing that ever elusive Jones family seems to have maxed out our credit cards but left our happiness account depleted!

Like Norma said Michael, trying to keep up with the Joneses have even left some people homeless which is very bad. We just need to learn how to live within our means. Great post.

My Partner comes from a Mormon/Catholic family, so he has all sorts of relatives everywhere. I think the largest family has something like 23 people in it. Personally I think it's irresponsible, but I guess we have to do something to try to catch up with China and India.

Michael- Interesting post. I haven't noticed but you are absolutely correct. I come from a family of 5 and there were days I thought we were crowded:)
