CRYSTAL RIVER -- Oktoberfest activities will be held today and Sunday beneath the huge tent on the grounds of Plantation Inn at U.S. 19 and Fort Island Trail.

Companion events will be held at the Crystal River Mall and Crystal River Plaza.

The Oktoberfest features German food, including bratwurst, liverwurst and sauerkraut, along with chilled German beers.

A carnival midway will offer rides, and the German Oktoberfest band DeLeon will perform.

Oktoberfest hours are 11 a.m. to midnight today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $1, and free for children younger than 12. The Oktoberfest is hosted by the Citrus Sertoma Club and is a fundraiser for the organization.

An arts and crafts festival also will be held at the mall today and Sunday. The works of about 45 artists will be displayed. Admission is $1. The exhibits will include Christmas and holiday items.

The arts and crafts festival is sponsored by the Crystal River Rotary Club and is a fundraiser for continuing improvements at Jim LeGrone Park, which is adjacent to the Boys and Girls site in Crystal River.

A four-day show and sale of recreational vehicles, boats and hunting and fishing equipment will also be at Crystal River Plaza, which is on U.S. 19 across from the airport.

The Oktoberfest Sportsman Showcase will be from 9 a.m. to sundown today through Monday. A large selection of RVs and boats will be shown to the public. The RV show is sponsored by the Kings Bay Rotary Club of Crystal River.

Melinda - Oktoberfest sounds like a fun event.  I really like this time of year when events are outside in the cooler weather...  :)
