Once Upon A Time Someone Loved This House

If I had the money I would buy this house. Once upon a time someone loved it...

I was saddened to see it in such disrepair as it grinned at me from a barren yard...

I marveled at the stonework and longed to see the inside... I wanted to leave my card for the owner.

Alas, there was no mail box, no sign, no post, no plastic folder... There was nothing for me to do but wait

and hope that one day soon someone would come to care for it the way that I wanted to.

Once upon a time someone loved this house... I knew I could love it too...

Carolyn~ It is a very sad time for a lot of people right now, and it breaks my heart.   This home has so much potential for the right person to provide it with all the TLC and repairs it needs....  I hope you end up with it and restore it to the masterpiece it once was and a "Home" to a very appreciative person...........

It does look like a really cool house, and it is depressing to see such a neat house not cared for.

It is so sad to see homes that are so neglected.  The home in your post has great architecture and has so much potential to be a beautiful and loved home again!

Thank you, Vickie. I was just talking to a new buyer yesterday who was very sad about losing his home several years ago because one spouse became ill and they fell behind in their payments. Up until the medical bills, they had pristine credit. It is so hard to catch up when a person falls behind. I hate when people assume the reasons why something is the way it is without looking into each individual fact of the matter. When I look at this home I always find myself wondering what happened and where are the people who own this home...

Carolyn, What a beautiful old home.  Thank you for sharing it with us.  They just don't build homes with the character that they used to!!

Tami, you are very welcome. I agree. The old homes have a lot of personality. :-)

Is the house in a historic neighborhood? If it is, might the historical society get involved? I live in one of several in Alexandria VA. A house like that should be restored. Though, the; H.S. can be a pain in the neck if you own a historic home. If you want to change say, the windows or back fence. But, they can help with these old homes that have fallen in to disrepair.

Carol, I will check the Building Department's records to see if that address is recorded as such. Who knows, maybe I'll find a work permit still open or plans on file for a pending job. :-)

Hi C., I am woefully behind in reading my friend's posts.  This one struck a chord.  I agree, I get very melancholy when I come across an old house that feels unloved.  It's very sad.  This home must have been a beauty in its day.  Loved your post about wanting a juicer and getting an oven!  Ask Jesse Clifton... this is the story of my life.  Does the red vacuum ring any bells??

Haaaa! Susan, I swear the moment that package came I thought about you (giggle). I remember muttering, "so this is what it feels like..." (LOL) How frustrating! God only knows what he'll bring through the door if I decide I need a new car! Maybe I should ask for one (ROTFL).

Susan, many grand events must have happened in that magnificent structure.  It would be terrific to trace the ownership history on it, and the history of the family, or families, who once inhabited the house.  It might make for some terrific stories about a very elegant time.  Who knows in what part of history the stories surrounding this house might be.  Imagination leads to many ideas!  Thank you for the great post.
