Mount Kisco Westchester County NY
Nestled in the hills above busy Route 117 in Mount Kisco is a townhouse community of 116 homes. Glimpsed through bare trees only in the winter, it is hidden from view for three seasons of the year.
Planned in the early 80's, Brookside Village officially opened in 1982. Built in the then-trendy contemporary style with angular features, the buildings were positioned so that there would be plentiful green space behind the homes. You'll find children cavorting and residents enjoying the fine weather throughout the year. Even in the winter, parents and children are occasionally seen gleefully tubing down a small hill.
Probably intended to be a first step in home ownership, most of the units have two bedrooms - most are townhouse style with 2.5 baths and several are 1 level apartments (with basements) with 1.5 baths. There are but 16 three bedroom townhouses. Some have garages, most don't. Everyone gets an assigned (deeded) parking space.
With full basements and tons of closet space, these townhomes rival small single family homes. Spoiled by what they have at Brookside, prospective single family home buyers balk at what is available in the next price range up for a single family house. Usually the same size (square feet), they lack the closet space and the majority don't have more than 1.5 baths. In recent years, many have chosen to raise their families in Brookside Village - building friendships and putting down roots.
Conveniently close to shopping, yet removed from the busyness of what is below, Brookside Village presents an ideal standard of living for those who like to have amenities near-by in addition to a quiet place to live. Traveling beyond the borders of the Mt. Kisco proper, you'll find yourself driving through rural like roads of the neighboring towns of Bedford, New Castle & North Castle.
Beautifully landscaped, Brookside has recently undergone a cosmetic change. New Hardi-Plank siding in a khaki color with white trim give the buildings a classic New England look. The lighting has been replaced with classic wrought iron light poles. Dutifully maintained, the complex has had new roofing, new retaining walls and many other improvements over the last ten years. Also among the features are a pool (open from Memorial Day through Labor Day) and a tennis/basketball court.
